I was gutted to find my copies of the 'Early Recordings' and 'Yip/Jump Music' (CD-r bought from live show) have really irritating gaps of two seconds between every track, which ruin the flow of the orginal tapes.  This might seem minor to some people but I felt a bit ripped off when I bought them, knowing that I had done a better job when I originally made my CDs with mp3s from Emusic using Nero.

If the tapes ever get a proper release, can anyone make the effort to prevent this from happening?  It's like someone sticking a big gap before 'With A Little Help From My Friends'.

I hate those damn gaps. My cousin copied Zeppelin's "How the West Won" for me and due to the gaps, it's ruined. Did you say you bought CD-R's of the albums? People who bootleg **** should at least take the time to do it right.

They weren't bootlegs.  I'm talking about the official 'Early Recordings' double-CD and 'Yip' which I bought from the official merchandise stand at a Daniel show.  It is not the homestead CD but a CD-R.  The idea that any future box set/reissue will these gaps pisses me off incredibly.  I could do edits myself, but why should I have to?

I consider both to be bootlegs and on the former they didn't even attempt to get the best possible source tapes.   cry

Your best bet could be just to download it (and the source material is pristine).

wasnt there supposed to be a stress records box set with all the tapes on cd? id like cds of all the tapes because i dont wanna mess the tapes up any more than they already are, but if these cds that are comin out suck, whats the point? i think something does need to come out now... too much time until 2006. but instead of these apparently bad cdr's someone should just put out lost and found and let stress  records put out the tapes on cd. lost and found is done and couldnt you just put that out yourselves like you did rejected/unknown at the beginning? i havent heard one of these yet... i think im gonna buy one this weekend so i can hear it for myself. maybe there isnt any annoying gaps. but if theres gonna be a box set, why the cdr's?

Patty, it all comes down to the owner of the rights and what they want to do with what they have. I own Lost and Found. The best time to put Lost & Found out is when the movie is released (not just in the States but world wide). I understand fans want new music right now but when you release a record it's all about timing. It will much easier to release a new Daniel product when Daniel’s viability will be at its peek. When the media writes about an artist they look at all angles.  When they write about the movie they will also write about the new record (and vise versa). It’s about awareness and marketing. Also, you can’t just release a record. You need about a 4 month head start before street date to build a unified front with radio, press, advertising and tour.

As far as a Stress box set of CD’s I’m not sure if this can happen without the blessing of the family because they own the masters. Jeff only has the rights to manufacture cassettes.

Keep in mind that all the “digital Daniel” music (all of his cassettes) has been re-mastered and truly sounds great.  In fact, Dick has these really cool eMusic promo cards (with two Daniel drawings on them) and they’re good for 50 free eMusic downloads (for any artist on eMusic including Daniel) world wide. I bet if you asked Dick if you could send him a self addressed stamped envelope he would send you a card. Or, e-mail me your address and I’d be more they happy to put one in the mail for you. I have about 25 of them in my office so if ANYBODY wants one e-mail me your address and I’ll get it right out to ya. Wow, come to think of it you can download The Late Great Daniel Johnston double CD, Yip / Jump and Hi, How Are You ALL FOR FREE!!!!!

We can call it a gift from me to all of you….
