I have recently become a big, big Daniel Johnston fan, to the extent that the few songs i have heard on the Discovered Covered album have stuck in my mind for the last two weeks, even while i've been at gigs! Last night i was at a gig in Glasgow, featuring The Frames, who put on an absolutely blinding show, but i had this nagging feeling, stupid really. Wouldn't it be great, i thought, if they sang a Daniel song? But how unlikely, really, how completely and utterly unlikely was it that the band would play one of his songs. Impossible, really. So how the hell did the second encore result in a finger-clicking acappella Devil Town? Maybe he's more popular than i thought, but of ALL the songs they could have sung, impromptu?

Wish i could elaborate, but i have to work. But does anyone else have a strange story like this to tell?

i have seen yo la tengo five times now(i think)and at every encore(or even when they just stop between songs at times) people went absolutely ape **** screaming for "speeding motorcycle"...
they played it once... which was really cool...
but then ira once(i think at the old toy tiger in louisville ky-it's gone now)said that they were not doing that song any more and to pick something else...
he seemed sort or annoyed about it and said that they get more requests for that than anything else...
so they did "paul is dead"...
which i am sure daniel would have loved for the beatle reference alone...
glad to see they are playing after daniel @ sundance...
wish i could be there when they play together like i bet they do...
oh well...
i also bet it is a crowded mess...
like in that episode of south park
