I understand that the South by Southwest music / art festival next March will be featuring Daniel in different ways - some of his art being integrated into the program for that year, and a special reception that they want to have at the State Mental Hospital where Daniel spent some time.

It will be interesting to see if the later occurs, because Daniel has a kind of uncontrollable paranoia about mental institutions, and is plagued with thoughts that "this is all set up to put me back here...." or the like.  He knows that isn't right, but his gut gets the idea and he can't let go of it!!

Anyone know any more about SxSW?

I think they are also going to try to get one of the tribute artists to Austin that week to perform and maybe share a stage with Daniel.

Should be an interesting year!

I'll nose around next time I'm up at the SXSW office (probably tomorrow). So far, by coincidence, I found out that Daniel will be doing the artwork for one of the SXSW tote bags - he may be the first person to do so more than once (previous artists include Frank Kozik, Mike Judge, South Park's Parker & Stone, Red Meat's Max Cannon, and all sorts of other cool entertainers/artists). There's a bit of a twist, though, in that this year, Robyn Hitchcock's drawing the "music" bag -- Daniel's in charge of illustrating the "film" bag instead, cuz of the documentary.

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...
