The new album of Roky Erickson is released today, "True Love Cast Out All Evil", with Okkervil River. You can listen this with Deezer (before buy it!).
Here what Daniel Johnston said about him in "Eye mind", the biography of the 13th Floor Elevators (Roky Erickson first band):
"I love his music. It's supernatural... and it's scary".

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!

lmao

I've been wanting to come here and say something about this but I thought someone might YELL that this is a Daniel's board. So Thank You. Now get out of my head...for real.

I looooove Daniel Johnston and that just might be why Roky Erickson's film came up for me on Netflix. Have you seen it? "you're going to miss me" 2005 I believe. When I watched it I kept waiting for the two of them to bump into each other (in the film). It was good...not as good as "The Devil and Daniel Johnston"...but good. And it had more of Roky Erickson's performances than TDaDJ had of Daniel's.

When I finished watching every out take, every little extra thing in the EXTRAs on the DVD I had to google Roky Erickson to find out what happened to him in the five years following the end of the film. AND to my surprise he had NEW music to be released the very next day. This is a little bit of heaven for someone like me that's all about immediate gratification. lol.

I bought it and IS and ALWAYS WAS Daniel's latest CD that I somehow missed until now.

I just have to have a copy of Roky Erickson singing "The Right Track Now" if there is a FAN who can point me at the CD with the best version I'd appreciate it. I've only been able to find a couple you.tube versions and none are off a CD they both are from interviews the best>> he's riding in the backseat of a car wearing a yellow shirt.

I'll check back. Thanks in advance.

Looking around you.tube it was fun to hear Daniel and Jad fair singing about meeting Roky Erickson.
I loooove Daniel Johnston.

This probably won't help you at all, but I'm pretty sure that this was the record I used to have with a really good version of the song you seek:

Roky Erickson "Acoustic EP" -- 1988 bootleg 45rpm 7-inch record in fold-out poster sleeve. Contains four songs and an interview snipped from a 1980 documentary.

Also, Shout Factory has a 2-CD best-of set with a version of the song by Roky Erickson & Clementine Hall; I don't know if it's particularly good or not.

If you're really desperate, you might wanna call Casey Monahan, who among other things compiled and edited the 316-page compendium of Roky's lyrics OPENERS II that was published by Henry Rollins. Casey's work number is (512) 463-6666.

(Don't worry, it's OK to call him there -- his job is to answer questions like yours! He's the head of the Texas Governors' Office Music Information Department.)

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...
