Ava Emrys, Our Baby!

Please join me in celebrating the birth of our first child (and latest Daniel fan): Ava Emrys Long!
Ava Emrys Long, 1 day old.
A planned drug free homebirth, my wife labored for 55 hours. With the confident assistance of our wonderful midwife team of Karen, Laura and Kate, Ava was born in our bedroom April 7th, 12:15am.
Both Mother and Baby are 100% healthy, happy and we're all getting to know each other in ways I've never imagined. So far she seems to like Brahms, CAKE, and, of course, Daniel Johnston. We are blessed.
A little sleep deprived, maybe, but still blessed.
My wife, beholding our creation, about 8 hours old.
Out in the woods with Daddy at 5 days old!
For more pics documenting our homebirth, please find me on facebook.

Wow!
That's actually a CUTE baby -- and I generally agree with Dave Sim's "Cerebus The Aardvark" who famously said that "All babies look like Winston Churchhill to Cerebus!"

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...

Thanks man. I actually said last night, following her feeding,
"she looks like a drunken Winston Churchill!"
She's pretty intense. Quiet and pondering, like her mother.

Congrats Henry...cliche to say, but enjoy her while she lasts, and starts finding knives and other sharp things in the kitchen drawers.
Yeah, our kid likes Danny too for some reason or other...
All the pretty little babies, ain't they cute?
They're alright
All the poor people, how do you do?
There's money in the bank
That's the thanks I give you
The young people...they're the best
pest, I'm the pest..but they love me
And the old people, they can't get enough
What do you think they listen to?
They listen to me, man...they love me
-beautiful babies, unreleased song

I don't mean to clutter these boards with my ramblings, I actually hold back a lot.
Mr. Long, I don't know if this is your first child, or your eighth. I'm not trying to give you advise, You seem like a Wise One, and it's you that I at times seek advice from.
Sometimes I just get inspired. The people in my life, think my poetry is senseless, but I don't hold it against them.
To look into a babies eyes and see the wandering mind, in it's blank slate questioning form,
is to witness the celebration,
And to look into the expressions of youth and That which lives and Breathes in relation,
is to witness Life's Spark the Seed, and the celebration,
The Blossom, an unfolding, forming the result of your effort.
It's a big responsibility knowing, that those first few years are so important. Give that baby all the love you can muster, and remember, a childs mind is fleeting, and unconsciously absorbing,
you have to teach the same things over and over,
Patience, really pays,
and the role love plays,
and there's nothing more than what the mother and father says,
Teaching the child how to think for himself, is the ultimate challenge which pays in full,
Patience and love is the rule. Spoiling a child is not the result of love and comforting, but the result of a child unarmed, and unlearned,

kralenpregn- Thank you sincerely for the kind words and beautiful poetic inspiration. (Please don't hold back!) Yes, you are so right. Love and Patience, Love and Gratitude. It's how I steer my soul and it's what I expect from the world. My wife and I have manifested so many small blessings, but this is the first baby for either of us, and I am over the moon in LOVE with both Mama and Child. (Ava is on me right now, passed out after her mother's milk, and we're all listening to Paleface's wonderful recent CD "The Show Is On The Road." (He's a Daniel fan and a real good guy. Check out his music here:

Having your 3 week old baby child all warm and cozy fall asleep on your chest is perhaps one of the best sensations/emotions/feelings of the human condition. It's why the angels wish they were us.
Anyway, your words are appreciated more than you know.
Gina! How the hell are ya? Thanks for the Hawaiian blessings.

Your a lucky man. Congratulations. Thanks for the Paleface recommendation. Boy! They sure bring a lot to the table! I can't thank you enough for that. Good music is so difficult for me to find. And when I find it!

Hey, Daddy
Am doing well - really well, thanks.
Made the best decision of my life with the move to Hawaii.
Have some beautiful friends, living in a lovely cottage along the Hamakua Coast and am writing a series of children's books, and will also attempt illustrating them.
Perhaps your sweet Ava will one day get to read them.
Happy Hawaiian vibes to all,
Gina

Gummo,
I said it once and I will say it again........that baby is to pretty to be yours....J/K! Anyways, that kid is beautiful and is so lucky to have folks like you and Emma as parents. In a world where alot of folks dont deserve kids and the kids dont deserve the bad parents they got...this kid has it made. She will grow up in a house where everything good is shown to her (music, art, comics, love) I am so happy for you and Emma!
