i heard tell of a hot young film maker interested in making a film on the early years....

is this something i should look foward to??

Personally, it's not something I particularly welcome. This focus on "the early years" of Daniel's career, be it a film, play... whatever strikes me as somewhat exploitative. I think all that really needed to be said on the subject was said quite well in "The Devil and Daniel Johnston," and the continued focus on the early period of Daniel's career might overshadow the tremendous work that he's done - and continues to do - since then.

In other words, I don't want to see him turn into his own version of an "oldies" act - running around doing silly things like performing the entire "Songs of Pain" album in full. He's still far too much of a vital artist for that to happen.

i think if it's done right it could be great! 'walk the line' was really good and showed johnny cash in both lights.
i've seen that interview with one of the actors that will play him and wasn't overly impressed. I watched 'moon' the other night with sam rockwell....man, that guy could play daniel for sure he's a dead ringer at times! watch it and you'll see!

I think the risk is to make a film very caricature. There is also a film in preparation about Syd Barrett. Risky project.

I think He'd be a pretty good choice. More than decent actor and vague resemblance to Daniel. Although they'll probably need a "young Daniel" too.
