Some guys at the Austin Chronicle are currently at work on a book collection of all the best writing from the paper's music department over the years (1981-present) for the University of Texas Press.

What I know: Daniel was asked to provide the introduction, which he did along with providing an accompanying illustration. His review of my own "How Hi Are You?" cassette, which ran in the Chron, around '86 or '87, will also be included.

What I can guess: The book will include at least a few of the numerous articles about Daniel which have run in the paper, cuz otherwise it would be kinda stupid to have him write the foreword, wouldn't it?

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...

How could it? It's a book, not a CD!?!

Please keep us informed as to when this comes out and where one might be able to get a copy!

I'm waiting for the guys to contact me about signing a release, which I will do under two conditions. One is that they correct the wrecked punch line of Dan's "How Hi Are You?" review, which he recited to Louis Black over the phone and Louis misheard it. The second is something I will relish greatly, but it doesn't concern anything you guys would be interested in.

Anyhow, last thing I heard, I'm pretty sure the guys said that even though they're trying to get the manuscript to the publisher ASAP, the release date won't be until Fall of 2010.

Oh Not, it's a book about music! You're such a linguist. (Not that that's a BAD thing...)

Anyway, I hope they make the changes you request and this comes to light for us all to ponder.

And where can one buy a copy of "How Hi Are You?"

Well, that book guy just bought one when he came by to have me sign a release.

Seriously, I do have CD copies available of "How Hi Are You?: The 20th Anniversary Edition" aka "The Very Pest of NOT Daniel Johnston!" Featuring more than 40 songs in 80 minutes, with guest stars Ray Benson [Asleep At The Wheel], Randall "Biscuit" Turner (R.I.P.) [Big Boys], Ethan Azarian [Orange Mothers], and SIX BIG TUNES FEATURING DANIEL JOHNSTON!!!

Reply here if interested or better yet, send me a PM!
