Arrive early, pay the cover charge and you're in.  You'll most likely have to stay at Emo's all night because if you step out it might be too crowded to be let back in.

(Emo's was suitably packed with an audience of generally appreciative concertgoers. Daniel played with a small, unidentified combo backing him up, and a larger group came onstage to further bolster the sound about midway through the performance.)

SET LIST:

1) Speeding Motor-Cycle
2) Mean Girls Give Pleasure
3) Tears That Drip Like Blood (?)
4) Living Life
5) Life In Vain
6) Rock This Town Tonight
7) Love Wheel
Cool I'm So Tired* (J. Lennon)
9) Live And Let Die** (P. McCartney)
10) True Love Will Find You In The End

Not a whole lot of stage patter this evening. Around two or three songs in, DJ did his joke about the guy sentenced to death for attempting to commit suicide. Another two or three songs later, he bemoaned the fact that he had already used up his only joke.)

*(There was a funny lyric slip-up in this one: "Curse Sir Rollter Wall-Eye!")

**(The band that joined in at this point -- I believe it was Grupo Fantasma -- kicked some serious posterior on the horn section of this one, making the accompaniment sound like the full-on James Bond movie soundtrack! I'm sure that Daniel MUST have been utterly thrilled!!!

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...

Anyone catch the ArtBook signing on Saturday morning?

There were only like 5 people there while I was around. If it wasn't 11am on a Saturday morning, during SXSW, I'd be seriously shocked.

I found out about it too late, which bummed me out cuz I wanted to tell Dan about something.

OTOH, the thing I wanted to tell him about was the record convention, and the signing table was in the middle of it, so I guess I didn't need to tell him after all!!!
