I hope I posted this in the right forum area.Basically I just love this song with a passion and it stays stuck in my head all day long haha. The more and more I listened to it I really notice the Beatles influence in this song and maybe Im wrong but I really notice it.I grew up listening to the beatles cuz my dad is a huge fan of their work(my dad was around when the beatles first started as were many on the forum Im sure or maybe not) and so thats just one of many bands I grewup listening to.I showed the song and many of Daniel's work to my dad and he fell in love with Daniel's music much like myself when I first heard it and he first brought up to me that he noticed a beatles influence in the song "Go".So then I showed him the cover song by "sparklhorse with the flaming lips" and he said once you get that song with the full band soundyou really hear the beatles influence even more and I totally agree with that so I was just wondering if anyone else thinks this(feel free to disagree and lets talk about it :Q))?I mean of course alot of his songs have the beatles influence but I just really notice it in this song and my dad who never heard of Daniel and his music even said this without knowing that Daniel is a huge beatles fan.I have also noticed other songs that really show a beatles influence also so if you would like tell me about other songs you really notice that have a beatles influence let me know.I most likely havent heard them myself as I have only really known the songs on the albums I have which are "1990", "artistic vice" "Rejected unknown" and "the late great daniel johnston".Though I have heard alot of Daniel's songs just not alot of his older stuff.

Sorry Im not good with words(which is one reason I dont really write songs to my own music and just keep them instrumentals) when Im typing or I guess in general so I just keep it simple when Im typing so I hope Im making sense about what Im talking about.Im better at talking about stuff in person haha

On a quick topic change Im going to be able to get my albums offthe site soon(sometime this week) so Im very VERY excited!!!Maybe I will post pictures of what I get once it gets here so you can see just how happy I am!

ps. my dad looooooooooooves "Devil Town" & "some things last a long time"

i hope someone will pop in here and talk to you about Daniel's song GO.
All I have to say is YEA for turning your dad on to Daniel Johnston.

I grew up listening to the Beatles. But when someone says they can hear the Beatles in Daniel's work all I can think of if "I wanna hold your haaaaand" It could very well be there, for me... they are two distinct areas of time.

I hope no one takes it wrong cuz I mean it in a good way though.I would try to explain it better but Im just not to good at typing exactly what I mean if that makes sense.Im very well spoken but as Im sure you have noticed when writing Im horrible.I dont mean that I hear that Daniel is using lines from Beatle's song but I kinda notice that I can kinda see that he is influenced in his writing.I hope Im making sense but I just dont know a better way to explain what Im trying to say.

I havent heard the song "I wanna hold your hand" in such a long time that I couldnt even tell you any other lyrics from it but that part haha. Now I want to listen to that song again.

I like Go very much and feel it is one of the best recordings he's done (next to Walking the Cow, Living Life, Museum of Love and Hey Joe). I really don't understand why it was not included on Welcome to My World.

It was not on "Welcome To My World" because it had appeared twice on Discovered Covered, and although some songs appeared on both releases, Daniel's family felt "Go" should be omitted. There were a million songs to consider, (well, okay, I think they work from a list of about 60 out of 600) and went from there. Many choiice songs did not make the cut, unfortunately.

By the way, the version of "Go" in "The Angel and Daniel Johnston" is stunning.

Just one more reason that explains why I must get that dvd! :Q)

o yea I feel kinda bad cuz I thought I said in my first post what Im about to say now.I just want to say that Im not trying to compare Daniel's work to anyone at all cuz I personally feel Daniel is the most unique fellow and that their is no one out there like him musically and art wise.To me his songwriting is so unique and no one comes close to it you know.I just kinda feel and my dad kinda feels like you can tell his influence in the song "Go" but of course I suppose the Beatles are an influence just in general for him.

EDIT: I will probably be hung(probably not though haha) for this but as much as I like the Beatles I honestly love Daniel's music better then the beatles and actually more then most stuff I listen to but I know I cant be the only one thats like this right?I mean Daniel's songs just seem to stay with me everywhere I go and that dont happen to much with me.But their are more then a few jeffrey lewis songs stay with me everywhere I go and their are these two songs by alias from his album "the other side of the looking glass" that are amazing and they stay with me everywhere I go.But their is just something about Daniel's music that I cant get enough of :Q)!!!

as someone who knows daniel, i can tell you that he absolutely is a huge beatles freak, he has all the records and a bunch of rare stuff, memorabilia and such.  he's been listening to the beatles his WHOLE LIFE, and i guarantee they are the biggest influence on him by far.  as you go along and hear more of his older stuff, you'll hear it more and more clearly.

as for "Go,"  i've always really loved that song.  when we did the rock opera "Speeding Motorcyle" last spring we worked up a pretty elaborate and beautiful arrangement of that song and playing that one was always a high point for me.

Not yet. My hopes are for Broadway. (Okay, off Broadway. Like, Hoboken off-Broadway!)
