The Story of an Artist on Munster Records. My official rating upon careful listening: 5 Stars (out of 5 Stars)
The packaging is beautiful. The text informative and a good read. Each CD is discussed in the 65 page booklet, with many photos I've never seen before. Cool poster too. This one's made to last.
Some of these songs I feel like I've never heard before. Of course, I have, but I guess it's actually been awhile since I sat down and listened to the music, as Mr. Everett True reminds us (so very often) to do. The sound is as clean as you can get, considering the source material.
If you somehow manage to get this, you will not be disappointed. Have a Merry Christmas.
One addition: I would LOVE to see a similar thing done with Yip/Jump music, Hi How Are You, Retired Boxer, Respect, Continued Story, etc. There's still so much in this music that keeps it alive.

kralenpregn- Thank you sincerely for the kind words and beautiful poetic inspiration. (Please don't hold back!) Yes, you are so right. Love and Patience, Love and Gratitude. It's how I steer my soul and it's what I expect from the world. My wife and I have manifested so many small blessings, but this is the first baby for either of us, and I am over the moon in LOVE with both Mama and Child. (Ava is on me right now, passed out after her mother's milk, and we're all listening to Paleface's wonderful recent CD "The Show Is On The Road." (He's a Daniel fan and a real good guy. Check out his music here: http://www.palefaceonline.com/Having your 3 week old baby child all warm and cozy fall asleep on your chest is perhaps one of the best sensations/emotions/feelings of the human condition. It's why the angels wish they were us. Anyway, your words are appreciated more than you know. Gina! How the hell are ya? Thanks for the Hawaiian blessings.

Yeah, I listened to it all. Not my cup of tea. In fact, it was rough getting through it, in parts. It's not terrible, just different.
Of course the same has been said, at the time, for all kinds of artists experimenting or collaborating, and now said projects are seen (by some) as masterpieces. Think "Metal Machine Music" by Lou Reed, "Trans" by Neil Young, etc.
Who knows? In the end, it's always good to see an artist trying on different things.
I'd still like to see Daniel pair up with a number of other musicians (Jad Fair, Eels, Paleface, Weird Paul, etc.) and do an original "Children's Record." THAT would be fun.

Thanks man. I actually said last night, following her feeding, "she looks like a drunken Winston Churchill!" She's pretty intense. Quiet and pondering, like her mother.

Please join me in celebrating the birth of our first child (and latest Daniel fan): Ava Emrys Long! Ava Emrys Long, 1 day old. A planned drug free homebirth, my wife labored for 55 hours. With the confident assistance of our wonderful midwife team of Karen, Laura and Kate, Ava was born in our bedroom April 7th, 12:15am. Both Mother and Baby are 100% healthy, happy and we're all getting to know each other in ways I've never imagined. So far she seems to like Brahms, CAKE, and, of course, Daniel Johnston. We are blessed. A little sleep deprived, maybe, but still blessed. My wife, beholding our creation, about 8 hours old. Out in the woods with Daddy at 5 days old! For more pics documenting our homebirth, please find me on facebook.

Send us a link to your cover! People will be singing Daniel the way people sing Woodie Guthrie, for generations. And I like many of the covers that I've heard through the years, but the one's I prefer are those done spontaneously, for their own entertainment, by people who no one has ever heard of before.

We all know that with Daniel, there's always 5 or 6 "completed albums in the can." So, if he wanted to, I'm sure there could be a new release every year or so. Not to mention the Danny and the Nightmares material, which is always interesting.
The way I look at it, there's so much Daniel out there, live recordings, lost tapes, alternative tapes, mp3's, etc., it would take a long time to get "everything," and even then, you know it wouldn't be everything!
