JEFF! Thank you so much for sending me this album!

These versions of the songs are incredible. It's great to finally have ALL of them on one tape.

Did he not perform the song that makes reference to (or rather shares the theme of) the "World's Finest DC Comics" featuring the "negative superman"? I have head the audio clip from the performance, "in my head there is a negative superman," which was supposedly when he opened for fIREHOSE at CBGB's.

Can anyone help me find somewhere to buy this album? Or help me get some mp3s of it?

I have found a couple myself, like "christmas in the looney bin" (which is totally beautiful and amazing) and I have of course heard the OTHER versions of some of the songs from other recording but I'm DYING to hear these versions.
8  General Discussion / mp3 Of The Week Requests HERE / Re: Devil Town live version used in the documentary on: October 19, 2006, 09:26:23 AM
Hey, new DJ fan and I've been looking for the version of Devil Town used in the movie Devil and Daniel Johnston.  It's live, and he strums guitar along with it (I'm sure you all know wehat I'm talking about, it opens the movie trailer and it was in the movie as well, I think after the plane accident story).

Anyway, from what my wife and I can uncover, it's a live recording from November 26, 2000 and it isn't on an album... can anyone confirm or deny, or better... point me to the song?  grin

Thanks muchly,

ill

The song you are talking about (in the first part of your post, where you mention it opening the film trailer and being in the movie along with the shot of the river and hills in west virginia) is called "spirit world rising," not "devil town," and it's available on the album 1990.

It sounds like the other song you're talking about is "devil town" which is also on 1990, as for the live version with people singing along, I have only heard of it being on the DVD.

found this link http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=21104 which gives some sound clips.

"frito lay" sounds pretty weird/cool with all the instrumentation.  now i'm curious to hear this.

Yeah I can't wait for the airing of the show either... I hope it's on the web somewhere cause I live in San Antonio.

Maybe someone can video tape it.

You can get them on Emusic.com for next to nothing, but you can also get them at museumoflove.com from Jeff at Stress Records.

Buy "Yip Jump! Music" and "Frankenstein Love" and "The What of Whom" as soon as you possibly can.

And then buy the rest of them, too.

Second song Dan played last night is called "the beatles"

It's on Yip Jump! Music.

Show was totally awesome. Daniel looked really good and sounded really good. The band was great and considering that the guitarist told me they never rehearsed with Danny, they sounded totally awesome with him.

I talked to Dan after the show, he was terrific. A lot of the people in the crowd didn't even know who he was... it wasn't what I'd imagined: a huge, throbbing Austin crowd of really intense Daniel Johnston fans, but rather it seemed to be whoever was (unknowingly) lucky enough to have been invited and a few devoted Daniel fans.

That part was weird... cause I'm not too keen on trendy go-somewhere-cause-its-cool type people in the first place... but when we're talking about the greatest songwritter ever, i'm REALLY not into them.

This one girl there tapped me on the arm in the middle of Dan's set and leaned over and asked me, "are you friends with him or something?" and I said, "who?" and she goes, "the guy singing," and I said, "ummm, kind of?" I didn't know what to say, really. I was just blown away that someone who didn't even know who Daniel Johnston was had been blessed with standing three feet in front of him while he sang songs from Yip Jump! Music!!!!

Incredible.

Anyway.  The night was great and I am REALLY hungover.  And yeah, Daniel was AWESOME.

While not as artistic or poetic, you might include Wesley Willis in Daniels catergory of ideosyncratic songwriters.

umm. what?

AWESOME. That sounds so cool. I'm stoked to get to see that.

Also, I have again spoken with Dean, the night manager at the Belmont, who assures me the gig on the 17th is open to anyone who wants to come.

So I hope he is right, cause I'm gonna drive up there.

Maybe I'll see some of you guys there.
