Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Henry Long on November 12, 2003, 04:35:06 PM Arrrgh! Have you SEEN all those songs listed in the archive collection being offered on ebay? Why taunt us so? Rent is past due, I'm living on coffee and eggs, the cat is almost out of ACME Cat food, and I'm sitting here actually considering how much I can bid if I get a 2nd job, at night, at the local copy store! Or maybe I can donate some plasma. Or sell off all my early Spiderman's I've been holding onto since I was 5...
(Deep breath... let it go...think calm thoughts...) It's gonna be real interesting to see what these go for. Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: dejected on November 13, 2003, 12:17:42 AM Henry,
Let the people with money spend it on these fancy CDs. We'll see that and more in the archival over time. Anyway, I've heard you can O.D. on these things, and thirteen CDs at once may put you over the edge! (I hate those smileys, but there - I used one!) Hey! Administrator - we need our OWN kind of smileys - maybe daniels' art, with skulls and devils, etc.. Is this a connected thought? At the ATP festival, Sonic Youth ended by shouting "stay off Xanex!!!" I thought that was hilarious! There, Henry, are you distracted enough? :o Ouch! Did I do that again? Title: Those discs Post by: Doug Sulpy on November 18, 2003, 06:28:10 PM No, 13 discs is too FEW.
But I'm confused... the Ebay description says these are "approved" by DJ - and points us to dejected for information, implying (at least) that there's some kind of connection between y'all. Dejected... is this stuff going to be made available to the Faithful (i.e., here) at some point, either for purchase or download? A positive answer will certainly steer some of us away from over-the-top Ebay prices... And, okay, while I'm here... a couple of more notes on the current crop of MP3s... Remember the "withdrawn" MP3 from month #1, which turned out to be nothing more than Dylan's "Apple Suckling Tree" (from the "Basement Tapes")? By some bizarre coincidence, "Hot Dog Burning Tonight" (from month #2) has the exact same tune as "Apple Suckling Tree." I also missed one of the Beatles corrections - minor, I know, but it should be "Getting Better," not "It's Getting Better." Shame on ME! Finally - and excuse me if you all know this already - but Daniel's hour-long appearance on WFMU Radio from 1990 was recently rebroadcast and is available as streaming audio from WFMU's website (which, if you've got a Mac, you can capture with a handy little program called "wiretap"). I'd never heard this show before, and it was great fun. "Speeding Motorcycle" was lifted from this broadcast for the single (and Yo La Tengo's compilation CD), but they also join Daniel for "Casper The Friendly Ghost" and "Whispering Hope". Daniel does a lot of comedy routines, and double tracks himself at times. Some other highlights are a great version of "A Lonely Song" and an up-tempo "Devil Town" (of all things!). The whole thing ends with Daniel singing along to the 5th Dimension's "Aquarious." Great! Title: WFMU streaming radio Post by: dejected on November 18, 2003, 11:26:58 PM Can you give us a link on the WFMU streaming radio?
That's interesting about Hot Dog Burning tonight - thinking about it I can't image how it would be the same - but let me check. "It's getting better" because of your input - that is fixed. thanks. Okay - the "word on the streets" about the RARITIES CD sets is that unless you HAVE a lot of money to burn, this shouldn't be a "gotta have" purchase. They are well done and a very "clean" way to accummulate some delightful stuff, but you don't need to pawn your guitar. It is my conviction that in due corse "MEMBERS" will hear everything on these that is worth hearing and more. The RARITIES certainly "complicates" any official discography list for collectors. My take is to classify these as "bootlegs". Interestingly, Daniel regards about half of the early tapes as bootlegs - the "lost recordsing" 1 and 2, Frankenstein love (for sure) and some others. They've become such staple tapes in the list, though, that they aren't treated as such. I think I would want to regard any regular "bootleg" that contained UNIQUE material (songs not previously published) as a candidate for the discography list. That way the discography list will identify all published recordings that you need to have a "complete" set of songs, etc. Also these are a "one-time" replication of less than 20 complete sets (I really don't know the number of copies made). Title: RARITIES set at $147 US already Post by: dejected on November 18, 2003, 11:28:56 PM The RARITIES set on ebay is at $147 US already - with 2 days to go in the auction.
THat's MORE than $10 a CD!! That's maybe not bad, but then who can afford to buy 14+ CDs at one time even at that price? Title: This... That. Post by: Doug Sulpy on November 18, 2003, 11:42:43 PM Right >$10.00 a CD is crazy, particularly when I look at the track listings and subtract everything I already have (the singles), interviews and cover versions... and it appears to come out to a couple of discs of stuff.
Ah, well, glad to hear it'll pop up here eventually. RE: Bootlegs Interesting Daniel would consider "Lost Recordings" and "Frankenstein Love" to be bootlegs - makes me wonder what definition he's using. Obviously these were issued by Stress with Daniel's approval, so there's no rights issues. Maybe he just means he never saw them as "real" albums, but more as fillers or odds and ends type things (I guess Live at SXSW would be in there as well, then). Hmm. Anyway, the link for the radio show is: http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/AC Enjoy! :-) Doug Title: The SINGLES Post by: dejected on November 18, 2003, 11:51:33 PM It's occurred to me before that some of the singles are not found elsewhere and are TOO GOOD not to be available SOMEWHERE (since the singles are out of print) - they probably need to go on some regular CD compliation as an album (evenutally).

Title: Capturing software-only AUDIO on a PC Post by: dejected on November 19, 2003, 05:46:24 PM You can capture just about any AUDIO using GoldWave, which you can download FREE from http://www.goldwave.com. It allows you to record from OS devices, hence you can capture streaming audio.
When recording, create a NEW sound, and set the LENGTH long enough to get the whole thing (1 hr = 60:00:00). Then in the DEVICE CONTROL panel, select PROPERTIES button, select DEVICE tab, and then choose whichever INPUT device in the list "works" - probably for streaming sound, select "Microsoft Sound Mapper". If one doesn't work, try another. FYI, GoldWave becomes much more powerful when you install an audio-format-conversion codec like LIGOS (http://www.ligos.com/indeo.htm?downloads). There are others, and that one isn't free. Without the driver, you'll be able to save as a WAV file, and then go from there. Good luck! Title: GOLDWAVE for capturing software-only audio Post by: dejected on November 19, 2003, 06:17:29 PM I just tried it, and it works as described. Good luck!
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 19, 2003, 06:35:01 PM Thanks alot dejected! I'm gonna download it rightaway and then Im gonna burn the show on cd so I can listen to all those great songs!
Title: The session is 1 hour and 6 minutes Post by: dejected on November 19, 2003, 07:16:13 PM The session is 1 hour and 6 minutes - 60 minute session isn't enough - make it 70 or so for recording to make sure you get the whole thing!
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 19, 2003, 07:46:07 PM yeah I will and I'm gonna do tracks on the cd so I can select diffrent parts so I can just go to the song or segment that I feel like listening to. This show is so great and so funny. Daniel could have been a comedian or an actor apart from already being a musician and painter as far as I'm concerned.
Are there more stuff like this? Don't need to be radio. Anybody have when Daniel was on MTV in the 80's (that famous one called cutting edge when they were in Austin)? I've never seen it just heard about it. Title: EVERYTHING IS FINITELY INFINITE Post by: dejected on November 19, 2003, 10:13:00 PM Yeah, there's a lot. And the more we can get people to COUGH UP what they've got - the more we'll all have to enjoy.
You HAVE been to the MEMBERS area, right? http://www.rejectedunknown.com/private317Aa/ The two MTV appearances are being "held back" at the request of the director of the movie "Yip Jump Movie" until AFTER the movie is out. After that - which may be a year off - we'll make sure everyone who wants it has the whole thing. That's not to say you might not be able to find SOME FAN who will share it with you in trade, etc. Just that DEJECTED and REJECTEDUNKNOWN are " restraining themselves" at the request of the filmmakers.... Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 20, 2003, 05:26:49 AM yes I check out the members area every other day!
It's great and I'm hoping there will be more stuff uploaded more often in the future! Keep it up! Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Stallion on November 20, 2003, 03:41:58 PM Wow...I'm gonna make sure and listen to this show, sounds great. :D

Title: Getting GOLDWAVE to work Post by: dejected on November 21, 2003, 08:17:38 PM The controls are NOT always intuitive or clear. Place your cursor over a control for the hoover text to say what it is.
"Device Control" must be checked under TOOLS to see it. Before recording press "NEW" button to create a new sound template. Then from the device, select PROPERTIES, then the DEVICE tab From the pull down list in the PLAYBACK and RECORD devices, select the different devices that result in SOUND appearing in the meters Hope this helps - let me know if not... The controls are NOT always intuitive or clear! It took me a while to figure Goldwave out, and even now, I have to "search" for the right control, and use the hoover help text to find them, etc. So I feel your pain! Are you getting it to work? Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 25, 2003, 07:15:16 AM I've cut out some part of this radio show and made all those songs into separate mp3s. Is it true that some of these songs have never before or after been performed, like spinning globe? These versions of True love... and A Lonely Song is so amazing and must be made availible to all Daniel fans. If there's anyone out there who wants these songs on mp3 I can upload them on yipshare (if that's ok with you adm.) Where's the info on how to upload (login password etc?) I can't find it anymore.
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Mindwalk on November 25, 2003, 07:28:17 AM Hey Disfranchise,
Check this Topic http://www.hihowareyou.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=57 If you need any help, i can do it for you, or help you to do it.. thanks Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Paul_Kelly on November 25, 2003, 10:59:51 AM Thanks for all help given on Goldwave, but I still cant seem to get any audio coming through. Thanks anyway.
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Stallion on November 25, 2003, 03:27:08 PM Paul you might want to try Total Recorder. It's what I use to record streaming audio. Only prob is it's not free. But let me know and I can help you out on that.
Title: Another free STREAMING AUDIO CAPTURE tool Post by: dejected on November 25, 2003, 07:34:44 PM Here is another free Windows SOUND software solution - I haven't tried it myself, but it is free and sounds comprehensive.
Title: Share the songs on MEMBERS AREA Post by: dejected on November 25, 2003, 07:36:10 PM I would ask that you make the mp3 files available to everyone through the MEMBERS AREA. If you can email the mp3s to dejected@rejectedunknown.com that would make a great December set of recordings.
Let me know. Thanks. Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 26, 2003, 05:27:05 AM Sure I'll email the songs to you, you'll recieve several emails with the songs attached. When I made a cd out of the show I left out the phonecalls to the show from the listeners but I kept all those pretend calls and sketches he does in the show. It would work great to download all the songs and then burn them in the right order and it sounds very coherent and smooth (if you make sure you don't burn with pauses between the songs) and you can't tell where one track begin and the other ends (unless you're watching your cdplayer change track).
I had some trouble with the yipshare. When I tried to connect via FTP my ftp-program couldn't connect to your ftp-server at all. Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 26, 2003, 06:18:40 AM Nooooooo!
I'm not allowed to send files bigger than 3mb and some of the songs are about 5mb. It would be great if I could upload it all to yipshare but I can't connect to it. I'm using the WS_FTP program (the most common one) and I've typed in this info and it seems correct. ftp://hihowareyou.com/yipshare/ Login:yipload Pass:upload Are you sure the ftp works right now?? Could you please test it anyway? Another solution might be, if this doesn't work out, that I upload the songs on some freesite and you'll download it from there. Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Paul_Kelly on November 26, 2003, 11:19:20 AM Finally sussed out Goldwave! Thanks again.

I've uploaded all songs to your ftp. The problem all along was that on the yipshare infotopic you wrote as ftp adress ftp://hihowareyou.com/yipshare/ when it instead should have been ftp.hihowareyou.com. Change this so no one in the future have to go trough all this. Enjoy the songs! we corrected the adress ....... thanks for the upload! Title: Wet Blanket Post by: Doug Sulpy on November 28, 2003, 10:01:05 PM I agree about the worth of the WFMU show, but I don't see why mp3's from it should be made available here when the show itself is readily available on WFMU's site, particularly when they're kind enough to stream it so that anyone who wants it can have it. What am I missing here?
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 29, 2003, 05:36:04 AM Because you never know how long they're gonna stream it and some people might like to have it on cd so they can listen to some of the songs along with other Daniel songs or just have the whole show as a cd.
Wouldn't you like to have a Beatles record on cd/vinyl instead of hearing it streamed on your computer? Still don't see why? Title: CDs Post by: Doug Sulpy on November 29, 2003, 07:18:02 AM Of course I would rather have the material on CD rather than streaming audio - but I don't see why that's an issue, since public domain capture utilities are readily available for both Mac and PC. In other words, anyone capable of streaming it is capable of capturing it, and can burn it to a CD.
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on November 29, 2003, 09:42:28 AM sure but it could be quite some work, especially if you're not too keen on computers. Some might even miss out on it if it's only availible on streaming audio because you have to listen to i for an hour or so and perhaps dont like the first part and then misses out on the best parts on the middle bla, bla, bla, bla, bla
It's easier if one guy does all the work, right? Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Paul_Kelly on November 30, 2003, 05:14:41 PM Another Goldwave question: does anyone know how to configure it so it doesnt pick up computer noise like clicks, pings from Soulseek etc?
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Stallion on December 04, 2003, 11:56:45 PM I went to the live section to download this show and devil town is true love will find you in the end. Can someone please correct this and put devil town where it's supposed to be. Right now it's just two true love will find you in the end mp3's. Thx.
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on December 05, 2003, 08:05:14 AM well I belive I uploaded the right songs. The problem must have been made by the member area admins. If I'm wrong I'll send the admins the right song. LET ME KNOW!
Title: ADMINS take a bad rap Post by: dejected on December 05, 2003, 03:44:33 PM Yeah, all the admin's are just big screw -ups! You can't depend on them to do it right.
Wait a minute - they are different! Okay - are we looking at the same thing? DIRECTORY: yipshare/WFMU Radio Show/ and the two songs are: 11-Devil Town.mp3 12-True Love Will Find You In The End.mp3 They appear to be diferent - so maybe someone fixed it already - or maybe there's a glitch in the download process, etc. Title: GOLDWAVE and capturing STREAMING AUDIO Post by: dejected on December 05, 2003, 06:03:13 PM This isn't really just a single topic any more, is it? The same with most of our topics. I'm don't care, but it does mean people have to "fish" for the info more.
On GOLDWAVE not capturing Windows Sound Effects, I only have a suggestion - not a solution. First, in Windows XP using Microsoft Sound Mapper as the device, I don't appear to get this, so maybe it's different by OS (for those who have XP, you may not have this problem). Otherwise, here are some suggestions: Go to CONTROL PANEL > SOUNDS and disable all sounds, OR (this will require experiementation and may not work) Go To VOLUME CONTROL , ( if need be from the FILE> PROPERTIES option, turn on all the individual volume controls so you can see them). [clicking once on volume control brings up a single volume slider. Double clicking on it brings up "advaced mode" with separate sliders for each sound source and output.] Then experiment if turning down or muting WAV still allows you to capture streaming audio. If so, keep WAV muted during the capture. Good luck. Oh, here are some interesting comments from the GOLDWAVE help file about Microsoft Sound Mapper - but there's not much you can do - the sound you are getting is digital data being pulled out of the TCP/IP stream and delivered to this "soft"device. The drop down list shows you the names of audio device drivers. Below the list is a table that tells you what sound attributes the driver supports. Under each sampling rate (11025, 22050, and 44100) are two boxes indicating mono and stereo support. If only one box is green, the device supports mono only. If both boxes are green, then stereo is supported. You can select any driver to see its capabilities. To play or record CD quality, the driver must support 16 bit, 44100 Hz, stereo. Important: The Microsoft Sound Mapper is not really a device. It converts audio so that it can be played or recorded by your sound card. For best playback quality, you should avoid using the Microsoft Sound Mapper. This is especially true if you are trying to play sounds at rates other than the ones given above. If you have an 8 bit sound card, you must select the Microsoft Sound Mapper as the Recording device. Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Stallion on December 05, 2003, 09:24:13 PM The problem is still there
Title: Two more solutions Post by: dejected on December 05, 2003, 09:45:26 PM Two more solutions:
Two more possibilities still left? Amazing. 1) don't do anything else in Windows during your capture 2) get a copy from someone else. Good luck! does everybody have also this problem with the wfmu radio show: track no.16 "aquarius" starts skipping heavily at about 3:14, there is also some weird rattling noise every once in a while throughout the song, sounds like the soudman is shaking a beanbag or something. have anybody heard any skipping/rattling on the other songs? -jason- Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Stallion on December 08, 2003, 02:20:47 AM Link works great...thx. :D
Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: Disfranchise on December 08, 2003, 08:06:44 AM j7on: the sound you are talking about was there in the original broadcast (I think) or this happened when WFMU converted it into a streaming audio file. So there's really not a problem that we can solve. I think it's annoying too but instead I'm more happy that this doesn't occure during Daniel's own songs.
/Disfranchise Title: ebay listing! / Daniel on WFMU streaming radio Post by: j7on on December 08, 2003, 11:44:16 AM no problem with the skipping anymore(or the small pause in the middle of the song), i opened the song in the nero wave editor and cut them off.
