I really like what you did with Cohen's "Diamonds in the mine." There is a rawness of expression. The Guitar tuner takes some getting used to, but I am reminded of seeing Miles Davis shortly before he died, full band onstage. He walked over to this massive keyboard and put his finger on one key, and left it on, that one note, through the whole number, everything building and moving around that one musical spine. After the song was over, he'd simply walk over to the keyboard and switch it off, which was when the audience would start to clap. He did this one-note thing for about half the numbers that night.
So, anyway, yeah. Keep going! Good luck. Requests, hmm? I'll have to think about this one... Title: Re: Summer Break (down?) - The Living Album Post by: OhJoy on June 17, 2008, 04:56:09 PM walking the cow.

I like "walking the cow" better than "better walking the cow"
Do you do any Bob Dylan? I'd like to hear "Man in the Long Black Coat" I'm on a break too, but I'm not doing anything constructive. Good luck with the project. Title: Re: Summer Break (down?) - The Living Album Post by: danmucherplexed on June 18, 2008, 06:35:14 AM You're

Lyrics: http://www.pattismith.net/trampin/myblakeanyear_lyrics.html Maybe not your thing, but I think it would sit well within the context of what you're doing! Title: Re: Summer Break (down?) - The Living Album Post by: danmucherplexed on June 20, 2008, 08:21:59 PM Here you go Henry,
Thanks for pointing my musical sniffer towards this ****ing fantastic tune The song is more out of my range (vocal, not emotional) than most of the other one so far My Blakean Year - Patti Smith Note: I added an extra verse Its an exerpt from Blake's The Everlasting Gospel that seem to fit quite well after the verse: "Boots that tread from track to track(...)" http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed3 (http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed3) http://rapidshare.com/files/123946996/My_Blakean_Year.mp3.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/123946996/My_Blakean_Year.mp3.html) Title: Re: Summer Break (down?) - The Living Album Post by: danmucherplexed on June 20, 2008, 11:21:23 PM New original
The Best Sleep of my Life - Dan (me!) A better title would be appreciated http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed3 (http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed3) http://rapidshare.com/files/123944344/The_Best_Sleep_of_my_Life.mp3.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/123944344/The_Best_Sleep_of_my_Life.mp3.html) We walked through each beautiful, drifting thought At each stop he asked me to cry I'd give him a smile and say "I better not" And for my smile he'd trade me sigh Then with his fists he would ask me again To tear up in both my black eyes Mother****er you can beat me to death But you still find out if I lied I lay prone long enough to escape in the end But I wasn't without a scratch We both didn't doubt that my words hid a lie But it wasn't one he could catch All the bumps on my brain left me so mixed up That I thought I could find where he went Then drug him and burn him and bury his ashes Under ten feet of cement But each broken bone in my body And each scab that started to heal All the feet, fist, and elbows that landed Finally became something real And the smartest part of my brain Told me to call it a night To grab the humility blanket he left me And to wrap my self up in it tight and say goodnight Title: Re: Summer Break (down?) - The Living Album Post by: Henry Long on June 22, 2008, 08:17:54 AM :-DWow, thanks for that cover of "In My Blakean Year," Dan. I like the added verse, and I like the way you changed the tempo. It's really cool, this idea of yours. Document it well. :-D
"The Best Sleep of My Life" is really good too, and I wouldn't change the title. You are a powerful writer. "...All the bumps on my brain left me so mixed up That I thought I could find where he went Then drug him and burn him and bury his ashes Under ten feet of cement." Title: Re: Summer Break (down?) - The Living Album Post by: danmucherplexed on June 22, 2008, 06:25:51 PM Thank You

Another original A Sophomoric Lecture on Death - Dan (me!) http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed3 (http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed3) http://rapidshare.com/files/124345722/A_Sophomoric_Lecture_on_Death.mp3.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/124345722/A_Sophomoric_Lecture_on_Death.mp3.html) I know that at my age they say You live with chip on your shoulder But what I've started to notice Is it stays with you as you get older And after a while you get used to the throbbing You make sure to live prepared Have alcohol around Not just for swabbing But also in case you start to care And for each sight you see it gets deeper and wider Until your shoulder is gone Replaced with a neat little sign on your back Saying death is approaching anon Then one day you will reap the rewards of your life-long friend The rot and decay that he left in his wake Will bring you a quiet end No invitations No fireworks No swinging from the rafters Just a calm and tasteful Transition into the Everafter Title: Re: Summer Break (down?) - The Living Album Post by: danmucherplexed on June 23, 2008, 09:57:21 PM This song

A written pop song is one of the most impressive musical feats To make a tune that is inoffensive, yet catchy and enjoyable is pretty impressive Today: TV Themes Diff'rent Strokes, Laverne and Shirley, and Greatest American Hero I picked these because they are shows I have never seen, yet I know the themes Which shows that they are pretty special TV Themes - Various Artists http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed5 (http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed5) http://rapidshare.com/files/126209757/Tv_Themes.mp3.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/126209757/Tv_Themes.mp3.html) Title: Re: No, Really. Gimme a Chance - The Living Album Post by: Henry Long on July 02, 2008, 08:33:00 PM Maybe a little Del Shannon "Runaway" could be added to this mix?
I always thought this was a great song, even almost a Daniel song, in style if not sentiment. What do you think? http://www.chordie.com/allsongs.php/songtitle/Runaway/songartist/Del+Shannon/ Lyrics: As I walk along, I wonder what went wrong, With our love, a love that was so strong. And as I still walk on, I think of the things we've done Together, a-while our hearts were young. I'm a-walkin' in the rain, Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain, Wishin' you were here by me, To end this misery And I wonder-- I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder, Why, Why, why, why, why, why she ran away, Yes, and I wonder, A-where she will stay-ay, My little runaway, Run, run, run, run, runaway. [Musitron solo] * I'm a-walkin' in the rain, Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain, Wishin' you were here by me, To end this misery And I wonder-- I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder, Why, Why, why, why, why, why she ran away, Yes, and I wonder, A-where she will stay-ay, My little runaway, Run, run, run, run, runaway. Run, run, run, run, runaway. Run, run, run, run, runaway. * The 1961 song "Runaway" by Del Shannon. The song features a famous solo by Max Crook, performed on a heavily-modified clavioline that Crook called the "Musitron". Title: Re: No, Really. We'd be pretty intuitive about it. If the song was really rocking, we'd take a heavy jam between the 3rd and 4th verses, then come back softly. Anyway, I consider it one of my signature spoken word pieces. Maybe you will find it conducive to your musical ear. (If not, I have many more!) Seven Days I spent seven days baking bread, then seven more sitting down at my table eating all that bread piece by piece. No butter. No sugar. No jam. Just my teeth and hands and the rare swallow of wine to mellow the yeast. And now all I want is to be inside her. I spent seven days working on a building, then seven more taking it down with the front of my head brick by brick. No hammer. No hatchet. No pick. Just my big old goofy head. I knew the mortar was bad. I mixed it that way. And now all I want is to be inside her. I spent seven days riding the wing of a bee, then seven more flower to flower, my face full of that stuff swallow after swallow. No honey. No queen. No sting. Just me and the bee doing our thing. Little petals sometimes brushed my legs. And now all I want is to be inside her. I spent seven days sitting on top of the world, then seven more trying to get back down. My head way up there in the clouds rainbow to rainbow. No elevator. No stair. No slide. Just take a deep breath, close your eyes, enjoy the ride. Interpreting the poems and then putting them to music is really enjoyable This was the only take where something didn't go wrong (even this one needed a phone ring edited out) (dropping the pick because of the constant downpicking, the dogs howling, forgetting words) This took a bit more than 4 hours stretched over 2 different sessions Henry Long - Seven Days http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed16 (http://www.purevolume.com/muchperplexed16) http://rapidshare.com/files/142195720/Henry_Long_-_Seven_Days.mp3.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/142195720/Henry_Long_-_Seven_Days.mp3.html) Keep the poems coming I'll do what I can Title: Re: Song a Day - The Living Album Post by: Henry Long on September 03, 2008, 07:38:40 PM That was pretty damn amazing, Dan. You blew me away. You made it rock for me, dude, and I can tell the time you put into the arrangement. Your choices in the phrasing are exciting to me, especially after reading it pretty much the same way for 15 years or so.
Are you really interested in more? Let me know and I'll put some song-poems up here... we might be onto something with this, y'know. ( :-D or on something! :-D) Title: Re: Song a Day - The Living Album Post by: danmucherplexed on September 03, 2008, 09:03:14 PM I would be honoured to attempt some more interpretations
The uploads might not be as frequent as I am back at school as of yesterday But the gaps will only be a few days on either side (I think...) Title: Re: Song a Day - The Living Album Post by: danmucherplexed on September 04, 2008, 05:58:23 PM Here's another interpretation

Where'd ya get that one?! I love it. Love the improv towards the end too.
It was almost like Ween meets Stanley Kubrick! Thanks.... Here's a few more poem/songs I wrote: Morning Song The mountains are gone. Hills have all turned gray. Rivers of black starlings heading south for nine long days. And I crave because I loved her, but I’m trying to upgrade. Sleeping in a catapult, dreaming of the jade. I want to kiss her like an archer, bending back the bow, pulling on the bowstring, and releasing the arrow into the constellation where the ghosts of lovers go. Light a candle for the conquered, close my eyes and watch it glow. Played a game of poker. Lost a pair of queens. Took my heart out for a beating. Watched an opera from the wings. And the song of dawn is humming what it hasn’t learned to sing. My currency’s uncommon. It’s not worth suffering. Somewhere there’s an ocean. Somewhere there’s a glade. Somewhere is an architect digging with a spade. And this morning came an answer but the bed was never made. Night has done gone left me. Stars burn bright then fade. ©2002 Henry Long Pisser We’re surrounded by profound mysteries. Reverent wonders in the pipe work. Crows in the trees speak Japanese, and my neighbor’s dog barks the F-word. 666 in my socks on the floor. Abominations in the wood grain. Saw the face of a Saint in a towel on my door and Aphrodite in a rug stain. Sacred hearts in the flames of my farts. Kali Ma in the gasses. Peed gasoline and lit lighter fluid streams. I reduce my century to ashes. ©1997 Henry Long Serpent Bride My serpent bride was taken by the night. Begged her not to leave. She said she'd be alright. I still see the gold white heat light in her eye. Now I pray the Lord for his swift sword to fly. We wed in the wood where the reckless winds hushed. I knew her by scent and was known by her touch. Slept in the caves so no one could harm us. She gave me her skin and I made a promise. Now I search the dark for her long hymnal hiss. I can taste her still from our very last kiss. I watch the sky for signs and the dirt for her trail. Has my serpent bride consumed her own tail? When my grave is made I'll be calling out her name. Though my bones turn dust they will blow about the same. As the days wind down all I see is her face. Death to the thief who has emptied me of grace. ©2002 Henry Long Prayerabola I wanna see the world while there's still a world to see. The future just ain't what it used to be. Somehow in our infamy, we lost the infant poetry, forgot the codes of alchemy, accepted mediocrity and called graffiti prophecy. Lucifer, you little Daystar, old horny headed pal, you ain't down there for the count, you're just tripping on your tale. Yahweh, you old buzzard, bearded hot-headed Jew, you did not create the universe, man, the universe created You. And bless us, O big Mama Earth! Keep us on the ground. And let us not fear dark or light, and may Your World go round. ©1997 Henry Long Dan-send me your address (by private email) and I'll send you my most recent chapbooks and some more poem/songs I've written this year, if you're interested. I've thoroughly enjoyed the variety of styles you bring to these, Dan. I like the punk edge you graced Pisser with (appropriately) and Prayerabola (one of my personal favorites and my favorite ((I think)) so far of these collaborations) made me profoundly happy. Wish you lived next door, brother. I'll be sans-internet for a few, but keep in touch and I'll get back to ya. Even more arrogant that ever I meant analytical mind as in i can't just accept that there's nothing I can do about some things, so instead I look for some way to "fix" it. Just a little busy. Coming out over the next few weeks is a (hopefully) complete cover of the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack. Hey, Halloween's coming up, so why not.
