Where is this movie playing?  Apparently not in Austin or any of the other semi-random cities I checked.  I've seen some discussion on the soundtrack release issue, but does anybody know why this movie isn't in more theaters.

I saw it at last years SXSW and have been dying to see it again.

I just know it's only going to play in one theatre in my city... and not until June!!!  Boo-urns.
I phoned the theatres to find that out.  It is only going to show at the tiny, arty cinematheque.

It opens in Austin on May 5 at the Alamo South and Arbor North. The film is showing in over 80 cities between now and the middle of June. The listings are available in at least a couple of places online. What cites are you looking for?

For the record, the Alamo showings will be "exclusively" prefaced by video odds & ends featuring Daniel, though I wouldn't think this would rate anyone's flying in from the coast or anything like that. I'll probably check with the Alamo gang soon as far as specifically what will be shown (or do you already know, Mr. Tartarsauce?)

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...

The Alamo staff now has my Daniel VHS "library" including the 1997 comeback show w/Rhythm Rats (Rejected!/I'm A Believer/Speeding Motorcycle/Favorite Darling Girl & rehearsal sessions) + live solo on Austin Music Network circa 2000 (Kool-Ade Medley + Live & Let Die), the "Life In Vain" music video, and the MTV Cutting Edge episode with Dan (Broken Dreams + chatter)*/**.

I'm not certain what other footage they have and are getting, but it's a good thing they did some "consulting" with me, since they were apparently planning to lean heavily on the Cutting Edge footage, unaware that the movie pretty much includes 98% of it already!

*Attn: the person on this forum to whom I owe a copy of the material listed above, along with lots of my own "Not Daniel Johnston" stuff - your VHS tape & CD-Rs are ready & packaged and will be in the mail within the week.

**Attn: Mr. "DANFEST" -- I could make and send you a dub off the videotape that's going to the person referenced above if you think you could use it as part of your extravaganza. Let me know quickly, though, as I am overdue in sending the original one off already!

Hey, is there any way I can get a copy of your library? Do you 2:1?
