Holy crap! Thanks man.

You know, you should start a website with all these tabs and let people upload their own to fill out the rest of daniel's catalogue. It would be like ween's Awsome Sound site. http://www.toddhorton.net/ween/

How about Chords of Fame?

Thanks for being the ultimate online resource for DJ tabs.

One of my favorites by Phil Ochs from his "Greatest Hits" LP (not really a greatest hits - just Ochs poking fun at his own lack of popularity, record sales, and of course, hits).   The cover has Ochs in an Elvis gold lame suit - the back reads "50 Phil Ochs Fans Can't Be Wrong!"  I'm currently obsessed with his music.  If you haven't listened to  him he's definitely worth checking out - especially "Pleasures from the Harbor", "Tape From California", "Rehearsals for Retirement", and "Greatest Hits"

Jad and Daniel changed the chord progression and also a few lyrics (as expected).  I threw the chords to the original Phil Ochs version just for fun)

The wiki site is good.

Chords of Fame

(Capo 3rd fret)
G    C    G
G
I found him by the stage last night
               C                          G
He was breathing his last breath
A needle full of heroin
        C                      D
was all that he had left
         G
I can see that you make music
                    C               D
Cause you carry your guitar
         G
But God help the troubadour
        Em
Who tries to be a star

G                  C            G
So play the chords of love my friends
G                C          G
Play the chords of fame
G                             C
But if you want to keep your songs
G          C          D
Donít, donít, donít
              G           C           G
Donít play the chords of fame

(verse chords)
Iíve seen my share of hustlers
As they try to take the world
When they find their melody
Theyíre surrounded by the girls
But it all fades so quickly
Like a sunny summer day
Reporters ask you questions
They write down what you say

(chorus chords)
So play the chords of love my friends
Play the chords of fame
But if you want to keep your songs
Donít, donít, donít
Donít play the chords of fame

(verse chords)
Theyíll rob you of your innocence
Theyíll put you up for sale
The more that you will find success
The more that you will fail
Iíve been around, Iíve had my share
And I really canít complain
But I wonder who I left behind
The other side of fame

(chorus chords)
So play the chords of love my friends
Play the chords of fame
But if you want to keep your songs
Donít, donít, donít
Donít play the chords of fame

G                                            C
Theyíre gonna put me in the movies
G                                                    D
Theyíre gonna make a big star out of me
G                                               C
Iíll play the part and I wonít rehearsing
G                                D               G   C   G   C   G   C  Em
Cause all I gotta do is act naturally

Thanks again. I didn't even know that was a cover.

All I know about Phil Ochs is that on the day he and Marvin Gay got married, the trees all waved their giant arms and happiness bled from every street corner and biplanes bombed with fluffy pillows.

Actually that's just a song by They Might Be Giants.....but its the only other time I've heard his name.

I would request another song, but I feel guilty - like I should be paying you or something.

hi there

I saw some sparklehorse tabs in this thread, and I was wondering whether someone ever figured out the picking in the song 'saint mary'..  been looking for that for ages now..

and since I'm asking, anybody ever figured out how to play tom waits's bronx lullaby (smugglers waltz)?

cheers

How about "An Idiot's End"?

I copied and pasted the lyrics from the RU websie.  I found an error or two, but I didn't check very thorooughly.  Please post any other corrections.

I don't have to say a thing
F                                                F  (E)  Dm

Am                                                  Am (G)  F
she looks at me like a gun cocked
F                                               F  (E)  Dm
and I'm afraid to turn my back
       Em                 Am
for fear of being locked

Verse chords Am    Am (G) F        F   (E)   Dm    Em   (E  G)  Am
I feel for a place to sit
things always go on this way
I'm lost for a little bit

her and I know weíre just a shame

Em

 Em              F         Em       F
talking myself into outer space
      Em                                          Am
and watching the reactions on her face

Chorus chords:  C    F    G   C   C/B

to know her is to love her
and I love her, but I don't know her

Verse chords Am    Am (G) F        F   (E)   Dm    Em   (E  G)  Am

the picture of her sitting there
being her on that chair
I can only say as much as I please
but not as much as I dare
where is the little girl who fell in love with me
the girl who fell in love with a satellite
that little girl has moved out now
but the satellite still comes around
most every other night

Instrumental :   Em   Am   Em  F   Em  F  (repeat Em   F faster and faster)

Verse chords Am    Am (G) F        F   (E)   Dm    Em   (E  G)  Am

I think my interest bleeds a heart
of a dead dog
lying in her yard
I could catch her standing naked
I could catch her cold
I could catch her breath and bottle it
but I could never catch her off guard

      Em
and I go there nowadays
              Am
it's like visiting a sinking ship
  Em
and I'm a man overboard
                   Am                            Em  F
and she won't throw me a lifeline
Em               F               Em            Am
symbolically represented by her lips

Chorus chords:  C    F    G   C   C/B

yes, to know her is to love her
and I love her, but I don't know her
to know her is to love her
and I love her, but I don't know her

What a great song. I didn't read over the whole thing, but I think I noticed some of those wrong lyrics you're talking about.....

Isn't it "a virgin afraid of being laid", as opposed to "birds that are afraid of being late?"

Or is that just my mind being in the gutter?

So, to save this thread from the bottom of the page - I'd like to request What I've Seen from It's Spooky.

It's pretty much the best song ever.

Thanks.

So, to save this thread from the bottom of the page - I'd like to request What I've Seen from It's Spooky.

It's pretty much the best song ever.

Thanks.

What Iíve Seen

I only hear the top 4 strings being strummed on this tune.  The ďoooohĒ part is just a D chord moving down one fret at a time starting from the 5th fret.

D   X-X-0-2-3-2
G   X-X-0-0-0-3
G7   X-X-0-0-0-1
F/D   X-X-0-5-6-5
E/D   X-X-0-4-5-4
Eb/D   X-X-0-3-4-3

What Iíve Seen

Opening: pick through this progression:  D    D    G    G7
using this string pattern: 1st - 2nd - 3rd - 2nd

D
The birds that fly
Way up high in the sky
                    G      G7
They know why
                       D
And what I mean
My mindís captive I canít forget you
               G     G7
I canít forget
what Iíve seen

F/D                         E/D
Oooooh, ooh, ooh, oooooh
Eb/D                       D
Oooooh, ooh, ooh, oooooh
(repeat)

      D
Iím on the run like a bullet from a gun
                 G            G7
I canít remember
                  D
where Iím from
Iíve become this dumb
Because I had to make myself numb
                 G         G7
If I ever wanted
to get anything done

F/D                         E/D
Oooooh, ooh, ooh, oooooh
Eb/D                       D
Oooooh, ooh, ooh, oooooh
(repeat)

Another victim of screwy tape speedÖ the recording is in the key of Ab, but he most likely played it in G.  Iím posting chords in both keys.

Can I request the song "Fighting with Myself"?

As always... the recording speed is off.  Daniel played it in C, but the recording is  in C#.  I'm posting chords in C.

I had a couple of places where I wasn't sure about lyrics - I put them in brackets.   Please post any corrections...

Fighting With Myself

C                    G7
I was shadow boxing
C                                    E
And my shadow punched back
A                 Dm
Can you imagine
B       Em       Dm  G7
My surprise

C                    G7
Then I got to thinking
C                                         E
If thereís something I donít know
A                           Dm
Something inside of me
B                         Em     Dm   G7
That Iím trying to hide

C                      G7
Fighting with myself
                   C
I may never win
                      G7
But Iíll never stop
                     E
When did I begin?
                F              C            G7
Till I can rest [these feet]

Verse chords:  C     G7     C     E     A     Dm     B     Em     Dm G7
I looked in the mirror
And I wasnít there
[Then I was] I wondering where
I could be now

So I sat in a chair
And tried to relax
But I really
Donít know how

Chorus chords:  C    G7    C    G7    E    F    C   G7
Fighting with myself
I may never win
But Iíll never stop
When did I begin?
Till I can rest [these feet]

Verse chords:  C     G7     C     E     A     Dm     B     Em     Dm G7
Sometimes I feel
Like I could get along
But it always ends
In tears

Sometimes I feel
Like I could be happy
But I always find
Something to fear

Zach, you got the first line wrong with the lyrics.

He says, "He's got tracks down his face", not "Black tracks down his face".

What do you think he was wearing make-up or something? lol

Actually, that was exactly the image that came to mind.  Doesn't make any sense, I agree.

I fixed the lyrics - thanks!

I love this song.

Death
from Why Me? and Lucky Sperms: Somewhat Humorous

G   C   E
C   D   E
D   C   E
D   C   E

    G         C       E
I wanted to be free
                          C     D       E
But there was nothing left of me
                  D         C          E
I saw the emptiness in her eyes
                            D                     C         E
Though I had to leave, something inside told me
      E        C       A
It hurts to be alone
      E         C     A
It hurts to be alone
          Em        Am       C
You might as well just worry yourself
        D    E    A    D   A      E
to death
    D   E   A   D   A     E
death

(all verses and choruses the same as above)

I found that loneliness makes me ill
Till I thought I could reach out to some girl
Like the girlie on TV
Like a magazine that smiles at me
But it hurts to be alone
It hurts to be alone
You might just worry yourself
to death
death

Way out in the deep blue sea
The fish swim like a family
The big fish eat the little fish
Till the bigger fish eat the bigger fish
And it hurts to be alone
It hurts to be alone
You might just worry yourself
to death
death

I only wanted to be free
But the world was like a prison to me
When you all alone in the darkness you canít see
Maybe you can get the gist of me
ĎCause it hurts to be alone
It hurts to be alone
You might just worry yourself
to death
death

I was wondering what the afterlife was like
Somehow youíll get your reward
Pillow for your head, whatever you want
Free refills of your great love soda
ĎCause it hurts to be alone
It hurts to be alone
You might just worry yourself
to death
death

Somewhere in the future I might not be there
I plan to live forever if I dare
I need to happy, I need your affection
I need the kisses IĎve been missing
ĎCause it hurts to be alone
It hurts to be alone
You might just scare yourself
to death
death
