recording etiquette was pretty amazing and really showed me how talented daniel really was at the time (around '85).  i had gone over to hang out with him in his tiny dorm room that was filled with records, tapes, comic books, and drawings.  i picked up his nylon string guitar and started playing around and daniel picked up this book--some '50s self-help-style book that he got out of a dumpster--and started reading out of it.  after about 10 seconds he turned on his jambox and told me to start over.  i didn't know what the words would be, and he didn't know exactly what i would play, but he followed me perfectly as he read the words straight out of the book, turning them into a song spontaneously.  you can hear him mispronounce the word "contagious" the first time, then get it right the second time.  at the end of song you can hear me laughing in amazement at how perfectly we ended the song.  the whole process of composing and recording took maybe five minutes.    i've been in bands with a lot of talented people, but i've never known anyone with such a grasp of melody.  the guy has trunks full of melodies!

Ab aug   4-3-2-5-X-X   or X-3-2-1-1-0

   G                                                  G7

You are my sweetheart, sweetheart
You are my baby, baby

can anyone give me a tab for the song "scuttle butt" off "the what of whom"

that would be much appreciated

 THANKS

Scuttle-butt

The right hand plays the melody notes e-d-c on the first C chord.  If you start with the right hand on the notes g-c-e then the melody e-d-c falls into place.

Intro:   C   F   C  G   G7   C

           C        F    C         G     G7   C
She's always ready for the worst of news,
                   C       F   C    G
And she's hopin' it may be you.
          C                 F    C        G          G7   C
She knows all the scuttlebutt about the whatnot
        C                F     C    G   G7
That she doesn't want forgot.
  C              F    C      G   G7    C
Rumor is a wind that blows so smart,
        C                F          C    G
It doesn't even know who you are.

(continue same progression)

She's standing there waiting at the top of the stairs
with her eyes fixed on you like glue.
"Where are you going now? Where-a you been'?
What is your latest sin?"

F
She's into the big time.
                                     C      C7
She reads the national enquirer.
F
She stretches the truth with such imagination
                                        C       C7
She's more of a writer than a liar.

She's always ready for the worst of news,
And she's hopin' it may be you.
She knows all the scuttle-butt about the whatnot
That she doesn't want forgot.
Rumor is a wind that blows so smart,
It doesn't even know who you are.

(End on C)

Cathy Cline

Thank you Zack. I don't have a keyboard so will have to attempt it on guitar, and although it won't be the same, I love this song. Everytime I hear it, I get shivers down my spine ...

I think it would be cool if these songs were added to the rejected unknown tabs/chords section. It would improve the site and make things more organized. It's all here though, but just a suggestion. It would be nice to have the tabs more accessable, although it might be because I'm lazy (oh yea).

Either way, thank you Zak, It feels great to play my favorite songs!

I agree... it's hard to find stuff within the thread.  I sent a bunch in for the "Don't Be Scared" tape a while ago but they were never added - maybe I just need to send them again.

Syrup of Tears - Songs Of Pain tabs are done - sorry I'm being lazy about getting them up on the board.  Typing it all it in and making everything line up is a tedious process... I'll get them up soon, though...

There are a few other tabs scattered around in different threads - I'll see if I can re-post them here.

Here's a list of the tabs found within this thread as of the present moment:

I moved these from "Don't Be Scared Tabs - side 1"

Going Down
(thanks to Peter Holy for lyrics)

I found that drop-D tuning works really well for this song (tune the sixth string down to D).  It allows you to get a fuller sound during the chorus.

Chords used in this arrangement (in drop-D tab).  “X” indicates a muted (blocked out) string.

A           X-0-2-2-2-0
F#5        4-4-4-X-X-X
E            2-2-2-1-0-0
Eb5         1-1-1-X-X-X
D            0-0-0-2-3-2
D/C#       X-4-X-2-3-2
D/C         X-3-X-2-3-2
D/B         X-2-X-2-3-2   you can also substitute Bm7  X-2-4-2-3-2
Bb           X-1-3-3-3-1
Eb6         X-6-5-5-4-X
D7           0-0-0-2-1-2

People see you on the street
And kindly ask you who are you seeing now
You turn so ashamed
Lost without a dame

Everybody says you gotta have a girl
Everybody says you gotta get a girl
And give her your name
Lost without a dame

I been lost since I lost you
Tell me are you feeling the same way too
Or is this just a game
Lost without a dame

Let’s hear about the girls in my life
You know my mama she treated me mean
But that’s not the same
Lost without a… dame

Any old C7, F7, and G7 work well.  I like these ones:

C7          X-3-2-3-1-0
F7          X-8-7-8-6-X
G7          3-5-3-4-6-3

"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
till the day i die" he said.
"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
till the day I die," he said.
till the day he dies.

He drank lots of beer
And he wanted everyone to know
That he wasn't a queer.
"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
till the day I die," he said.
till the day he dies.

He was hardly a man,
Though hardly a man at all,
But he sure like his Harley.
You'd see him staggerin' around,
staggerin' around up at the mall,
happy as can be.

To feel the pain of being an asshole.

(first verse chords)

Wandering around now nobody told me
I figured it out for myself
and the evening stars do shine

I was thinking just the other day
my how things have changed
since you been mine
oh oh - uh uh

You've been kind to me and I won't forget
kinder than anybody's been to me yet
