Could anyone give me the chords for Some Things Last A Long Time? I absolutely love Daniel's version; it is so raw and innocent. One of my favorite bands, Built To Spill, did a cover of it on their album The Normal Years and it is really good. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it immensely. Thanks.

It’s Spooky
from Jad Fair and Daniel Johnston: It’s Spooky

The guitar is fairly out of tune on this whole album.

If you haven’t listened to this song on headphones, check out the panning.

A    x-0-2-2-2-0
D    x-0-0-2-3-2

Intro: pick the highest 3 strings of the D chord from high to low
A    D    (throughout the whole song)

Sometimes when I’m watching television
And I think that most of the people in the movie
Are probably dead
And it’s spooky

And when I go to a funeral
See the people weeping
And the body in the casket
It’s spooky

And in the Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoon
I always wondered how it was
That he died
And it’s spooky
It’s spooky
Ooooo
Something’s happening in the world
The heavy metal bands…

If I’d Only Known (J. Fair)
from Jad Fair and Daniel Johnston: It’s Spooky

same chords as “It’s Spooky”

A     D    (throughout the whole song)

If I’d only known I could have said something sooner
But I didn’t, so I didn’t, now it’s done
The last thing I’d do was the first thing you did
What we once had is all gone

I see it all a little too clear
Too clear for my own good
Let sleeping dogs lie is a good rule I’m told
I only wish that they would

If I’d only known I could-a said something sooner
I really did think it would last
Now it’s too late, it’s over and now
My future is all in my past

Kicking The Dog (McCarty/Beattie/Lane/Cameron)
from Jad Fair and Daniel Johnston: It’s Spooky
Guitar chords if you need them:

C    x-3-2-0-1-0
F/C   x-3-3-2-1-1
F    1-3-3-2-1-1
G     3-2-0-0-0-1 or 3-5-5-4-3-3

Piano voicings (RH= right hand, LH = left hand; notes are listed from low to high):
C     LH: C-G / RH: C-E-G
F/C  LH: C-A / RH: C-F-A
F     LH: F-C-F (lower octave) / RH: C-F-A
G     LH: G-D-G (lower octave) / RH: D-G-B

Usually the left hand is playing the chords on straight quarter notes.  The right hand plays the chords on beat one.

Kicking The Dog

C      F/C   (one chord per bar – 6 times)

I want to know where she goes
I want to know what she does
I wonder who are these people
She likes so much better than me
She feels bad enough
Things did not work out

F/C               C
And when she sees me
F/C                   C
And she lets her guard down
F
She’s kicking the dog, she’s doing wrong
She’s kicking the dog, she’s doing wrong
          G
And it doesn’t help anyone
No not at all

C      F/C   (one chord per bar)

I said I had a girlfriend
Made me scared of the world
The way it sounds when I wrote it down
Makes her hate that girl
I turned myself inside out to
Put the blame on her

F/C               C
And when she sees me
F/C                   C
And she lets her guard down
F
She’s kicking the dog, she’s doing wrong
She’s kicking the dog, she’s doing wrong
          G
And it doesn’t help anyone
No not at all

C      F/C   (one chord per bar)

We walk around and try to talk
But I’m just twisting her arm
To try and get what I want
I just don’t know
When to stop
F/C                 C
I’m twisting her broken arm
F/C                 C
I’m twisting her broken arm
F
I’m kicking the dog, I’m doing wrong
We’re kicking the dog, we’re doing wrong
          G
And it doesn’t help anyone
No not at all

C      F/C   (one chord per bar)

Kicking the dog
We’re kicking the dog
Kicking the dog
Stop kicking the dog

end on C7

Some Things Last a Long Time

(verse progression 1)

Your picture
is still
on my wall
on my wall
The colors
are bright
bright
as ever

(verse progression 2)

The red is strong
The blue is pure

(Chorus)

Some things last a long time
Some things last a long time

Your picture
is still
on my wall
on my wall
I think
about you
often
often

I won’t forget
all the things we did

Some things last a long time
Some things last a long time

It’s funny
but it’s true
And it’s true
but it’s not funny

Time comes and goes
all of the while

I still think of you
Some things last a long time

Your picture
is still
on my wall
on my wall
The colors
are bright
bright
as ever

The things we did
I can’t forget

Some things last a lifetime
Some things last a lifetime
Some things last a lifetime

(end on verse progression 1

Thank you for the response. I don't play piano, but I was wondering if you could transcribe the chords so I could play it on guitar? It seems like it would be an easy one to play on guitar.

Some Things Last A Long Time
from 1990

Guitar version.
I tried to maintain the simplicity of the piano part for this tab.  Playing with fingers instead of a pick may make this easier.

Verse progression 1

C     x-3-2-0-x-x
F6    x-x-3-2-3-x
F     x-x-3-2-1-x

rhythm
1   2 + 3   4   | 1   2 + 3   4   |
C6    C            F6    F

Verse progression 2

I named these by the notes that are played

chords

f.c   x-x-3-x-1-x
f.b   x-x-3-x-0-x
f.a   x-x-3-2-x-x

rhythm
1     2   +   3     4    |1     2   +   3     4    |

f.d       f.c       f.b   f.c       f.d       f.c

Could someone please post the tabs for I'll Do Anything But Breakdance for you, darling and Strange Boy?  They don't necessarily have to be for guitar though, because I also play piano.

Mask

G                    C                       A                      D
seems like her broken heart, the loving part, was missing
as the drama unfolds she's lost the art of loving
nowhere is where she goes to find her piece of nothing
seems like she's had enough but she's always up to something

and now as the story goes another day is dying
she's already changed her clothes and in disgrace she's laughing

it wasn't so long ago she had me so temptated
and with no obligation I was feeling so sedated
now I'm left pretty dumb and every bit retarded
now the fires that burn are more than what she started

and now as the story goes another day is dying
she's already changed her clothes and in disgrace she's laughing

it's just a show of shows is that all she's thinking
and maybe I told her so, I'm thankful that I'm living
another day in the past and every hour I'm haunting
everybody is wearing a mask playing skip to the lou my darling

and now as the story goes another day is dying
she's already changed her clothes and in disgrace she's laughing away

no one knows the sorrow of a broken heart that's bleeding
seems as though she never cares for no one that's despairing
more or less love and somehow she was lying
time after time she gave it all away without trying
just to take you for a ride like a bird that's falling
no one knows the sorrow of a broken heart that's bleeding
seems as though she never cares for no one that's despairing
like rain upon an open grave

I'll Do Anything But Breakdance for You, Darling

G C G G/C
G C D

                    G             C                G         G/C
Sometimes I feel like I am a boxer

                       G          C                      D
Seems like I'm always standing in the ring

                  G                   C                   G         G/C
And then I find someone's been in my locker

                    G             C                 D
He left me a note that says I can't sing

          G                  C                            G            G/C
I'll do anything but break dance for you, darlin'

G C D

  G                      C                 G            G/C
I guess that the down of the donegar

          G                 C                                 D
I don't know what happened and I can't remember

G            C              G         G/C
But I was soon to discover

             G       C             D
That my radio had been broken

          G                  C                             G          G/C
I'll do anything but break dance for ya, darlin'

G-D-C(single notes) C                             G    G/C
Don't you know that I love you, love you

Don't you know that I love you, love you

G C G G/C
G C D

All the folks on dope in search of hope

Everybody and the lonely orphan

And everyone around the world

Every boy and every girl

For all the good times

Always remember and never forget

In my secret heart

I'll do anything but break dance for ya, darlin'

Don't you know that I love you, love you

Don't you know that I love you, love you

Can we request lyrics here, as well? I'd like all of the lyrics to "Spirit World Rising", if anyone has them.

I have been to Abilene
The spirit world rising
I have seen in Abilene
The devil has Texas

Purple rose they shall wear
The spirit world rising
The number on their forehead and hand
The devil has Texas

From the sky the number 7
The devil defeated
In the sky
The new Jerusalem

I have been to Abilene
The spirit world rising
I have seen in Abilene
The devil has Texas
