And one VOTE - I don't think you can call that a consensus! Anyway, have you listened to the PLAYING on that track? It's awful! I should've torn up the check I got for drumming! Or, as I put it in an open letter to Davy Jones at alt.music.monkees:

"...my tambourine playing is so horrible it's almost beyond description!
The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like the tambourine is
on the floor near me, and for some reason I am afraid that there may be
a poisonous snake hiding underneath and I am attempting to prod it
randomly with a stick in order to ascertain whether or not I am in
danger of being bitten!"

FYI: The song was recorded in one take, with Dan on piano & vocals plus myself and Ethan Azarian of the Orange Mothers on percussion and guitar, respectively (I think the loud guitar was added later by Brian Beattie or Craig Ross, though). It was modeled after an improv tune called "Gonna Rock & Roll Tonight" from the "LET IT root BEer" sessions the 3 of us [DJ, me and EA] did on 4-track in 2001, I think it was.

I can provide the whole story behind the song and the original improv lyrics (which are far more involved than the final version's endlessly repeated "Rock around the Xmas tree/Everything is you & me") sometime if anyone's interested.

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...
