For me "1990" very rarely gets a mention, Daniels darkest work and possibly best album as a whole...

Can never stop listening to it.....some real deep ,beautiful songs..

I know of at least one film director who would agree with you.  Several of the songs from "1990" are prominently featured in The Devil and Daniel Johnston.

For people who have only heard "Fun" or the early tapes, "1990" can be a sobering experience, since it was obviously recorded at a time when Dan was very unhappy, and very unstable. It's a brilliant album, but very heavy, emotionally.

I really can't say which album or tape is underrated, but I think "Tuna Ketchup" and "Peek A Boo" are underrated songs.

How about Artistic Vice? Honey I Sure Miss You, Tell Me Now and Laurie are three of the most poignant love songs he's ever written (which is saying they're three of the most poignant love songs ever written by anyone) and just about everything else on the record is equally brilliant. Daniel's most upbeat and optimistic record could very well be his most underrated.

yes! artistic vice rarely gets mentioned but is one of his best albums no doubt.
But why talk about what album is the most underrated? Daniel Johnston as a songwriter is perhaps the most underrated in the world.

oh yeah i think seeing as all of us are on the message board , we all realise what a great songwriter Daniel is, so yeah to us hes fantastic....and really my main question was aimed at the people on this board( who i guess are familiar with most of Daniels material)
