Help with MP3s

Hi Everyone

Im having trouble burning the mp3s that i download on this site?

I am on Macs and burn my CDs with Toast? This is the message i get.

(Only 16bit/44kHs sound can be written "Crazy.mp3 is Not In This Format)

Can anyone HELP me PLEASE

This is apparently a limitation of that CD buringing software.  It is not really the mp3 or being a Mac that is the problem.

Since the software does not "translate" from any mp3 settings, you'll need to convert the mp3 file to 16bit 44hs and save it with those settings before your software can read it.

I use Goldwave which is downloadable in a demo form from the site with that name.  Just load the mp3 and then Save As, select MP3 as file type, and then from the list of formats, selecte any 44hz stereo value - probably this highest bps.

Or use another CD buring software that can read/convert from various formats.  Or get someone with a PC (me?) to convert the file for you.

maybe a new version of Toast would do that (I think the latest is Toast 5?), otherwise I know Sound App ( a freeware) can do that.
btw, I'm on Mac too, I can listen to the MP3 from the site but I cannot save them on my hard drive. How do you do that?

Well, I don't have a Mac, but I assume the conventions in a browser have equivalents.   If you "click" on a URL the ends in .mp3 - Windows will load the program that file extension is primarily associated with and play it.  Windows Media Player then DOES let you select File Save while it plays the mp3.  Other programs like RealPlayer don't.

Alternately in Windows, you can right click and select "save target as" and the file named in the link (the .mp3 file) will be downloaded as a file - you are prompted to select where to download it.

A third less known method when the program doesn't let you save a file or they have a java-script or php delivery of the file so you can't right-click and "save-target-as" would be to go to the directory where your internet files are located - virtually every file, gif, movie, html, jpeg, html, etc. is actually saved SOMEWHERE (in Windows under "temporary internet files") and you can usually find the file by time stamp and get it from there.

I probably shouldn't have attempted to answer this question because I don't know about the Mac.  Maybe it will help, though.

An easy solution is to to go iTunes, then Preferences. Click on "Importing" and change the "Import Using" button to "Aiff encoding."

Then click on your mp3(s) to select it (them) in iTunes, go up to "Advanced" and convert your selection to aiff files - these should then burn in Toast without a problem.
