A track from the new cover album has been leaked.
Now everyone who has already desided they don't like the album before even hearign it can tell you how much this song sucks. Everyone else who has yet to form an opinion can see for themselves what they think of this track from the album.

Well, Impossible Love as a musical idea is inventive and even clever - but it's not a song that I would ever put out as "the likely hit" from an album.

Otherwise, I think the cover is quite good.   Very good.

I think part of the reaction is "judging it in this context" - the style of each artist "takes over" to some degree in the song.   If you don't like that song, you may not like that artist.

I don't think I understand the "this sucks" reaction, but out of taste or being accustomed to Daniel, I think I like Daniel's version a little better!  I mean, it IS his song.

Boy oh boy.  Wouldn't that be something - this album turns into a roast for the contributors!    They won't do that again any time soon!!

I wasnt trying to roast them Dejected i was just giving my opinion i just thought it went on and on, in fact i have listened to it a few times and i just didnt dig it, and it is more then likely not gonna grow on me. All i have done to promote it and all the praise i give Daniel the last thing i would want is someone not to buy the cd.
Everyone here knows how passionate i am about the works of Daniel.

I have to agree.  The cover really wasn't that bad, believe me I've heard much worse.

I love violent femmes, so this is one of the tracks i was most looking forward to, i'm downloading as we speak, so i'll be back with a verdict. i'll try not to let my extreme violent femme love skew my verdict

Alright.. i let it skew me.. maybe.

It's not the best song i've ever heard, i'll admit.

but i do think it's really good... and wouldn't sound out of place on a Violent Femmes record.

so... i'm for it.

Can't wait to buy this album... HOT DAMN!

I think the cool "thing" about the song is Gordon took it and made it his own.  It does sound like an old VF tune (it could have been from the first album too). I know this is a hard trick to pull off and Gano did it.  Meh, then again I'm the producer of the CD and have had the track in for almost 2 years so I know it very well.

Wishing all of you the best..... Tongue

a tribute record is a tricky thing.. i've heard very few that i thought where any good. in fact the only one that i really like is "all their broken hearts" a tribute to Julie Doiron.

So not everyone is going to like every track, that's a given, to me, a tribute album is more of a "cool thing to own" than a record to disect and critique and judge the same you would a normal album.

it's just a way of everyone coming together to support someone they respect.

what am i on about now? i don't know.

ordering it in a couple days though!

Wicked Will et all...

Say on!   I don't mean to throw a wet blanket on your comments.  Say what you feel.   Some moderator will delete it if its "too heavy" - that really doesn't happen very often.

What I thought was unusual about ALL 18 songs was that they didn't really take the song and adapt it to their own sound and style.   They really did it pretty straight through like Daniel's version, maybe "trying to keep the song in tact".

It might have been more "interesting" to hear what each could have done adapting the original to their style.   The result would be to demonstrate the versitility of the musical "idea".

I would really like to "encourage" people to do that.   I think Kathy McCarty put Daniel's songs across so well because she connected with the "musical idea" and then she performed it like she would do - not really just as Daniel might.

Anyway..... rambling on... those are some of "my" reactions...
