In a rush now, so all I have time to say about the long-awaited lineup is: Can't complain!

As far as the "late" bit, that sounds like it could turn oiut to be a bad idea, but I'm guessing it came from Daniel himself, right?

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...

Great! Just great! Totally looking forward to this.
Thrilled about the Eel’s doing “Living Life.”
Is “Thrisle” the band with wunderkind J.T. Leroy (author of the amazing “Sarah” and “The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things?”), cuz if it is, I turned J.T. onto Daniel a few years ago!
Right after “Sarah” came out, I read it and sent J.T. an e-mail. We corresponded a few times, and I mentioned he should check out Daniel Johnston, and recommended the rejected unknown site. He wrote back later that he visited the site and liked the “pictures,” but didn’t mention anything about the music, as far as I can remember...

Conner Oberst does Daniel. Jeez! Didn’t see that one coming.

Now, as for the ill-fated interview of April 15th...

I could not make the N.Y. trip due to the manic whims of my obese out-of-control ogre of a boss who needed me here at the last minute for a show at the gallery...whatever. I was pissed, and am currently negotiating employment with the Phila Museum of Art, which looks really promising. (Wish me luck, say a prayer, burn a candle, sacrifice a ...nevermind.) Anyway, the interview will still happen over the phone once the dust storm of my life (exhibits, moving, women, etc.) settles a bit, I swear. Dont give up on me, okay? I’m still around, just a little spread thin.

Shameless plug dept:
If anyone out there would like a copy of “Coming of Age: Recent Songs by Henry Long” a chapbook of my most recent poetry (now in it’s 2nd printing) feel free to drop me an e-mail at: ripefate@hotmail.com
I am really really broke right now, (ack), so I can’t send them out as freebies as I usually would. At my readings and art exhibits I charge 10 bucks (a dollar a poem!) for a signed one, but I am willing to send Yip! Jump Board Forum Folks a copy, postage paid, for $5.00, (or a bootleg CD, or a frozen turkey, or...well, make me an offer...)

See you.

geez henry that sucks! that boss of your sounds like a real piece of work. i was really looking forward to it and i know you were to. maybe in the near future it will happen.

members of the forum: i recently got a poem book from henry myself and for 10 bucks its a deal for five bucks its damn near a steal!! i enjoyed it quite a bit and have read it several times in fact it was good enough that i almost feel bad about trading him a frozen turkey and half eaten whopper instead of the cash for my copy smiley  cheesy
do yourself a favor check it out!!!!

Wonder if the title is a reference to Tonwnes Van Zandt's 1972 album 'The Late Great Townes Van Zandt'???

Cool to hear SH & the lips will be covering go! Mark actually recorded a demo of the song way back in it 1990. He also persuaded Susanna Hoffs to record a version on her unreleased 1994 album...

Anyone heard of the The Rabbit before? It's just Mark once mentioned a side-project called Rabbit & SH did play Good Morning You live a few times in 2001...

I think I posted earlier that my only real request would be for Lips involvement in the tribute, so I was thrilled about that as well.

As far as Miz Bangle, I always *wondered* if that track was ever recorded. What little talk there was about that solo album back then usually included rumors that Go would be the first single (I can't imagine how her version would sound, but I had hopes it would rock). You sound like perhaps you know why the project was abandoned...?

Here's what http://home.att.net/~BanglesCom/ have to say...

"Recorded in 1994 as her follow-up to 'When You're A Boy', Susanna's style had changed to reflect more of her emotions which was a direct reflection of the fact that she co-wrote over half of the album. It was grungier rock and had more of a bite than her first solo outing. It was riskier and more original. And perhaps that was why Columbia Records rejected it. Wanting something more along the lines of 'When You're A Boy', the label ordered Susanna to return to the studio to re-record them. When she refused, she was released from her contract. But in a rare move, Columbia also turned all of the songs' rights over to her (which usually they prefer to hold onto to them to capitilize on any future success she might have for another label). Anyhow, Susanna walked over to London Records where she recorded a new set of songs for the album that would later appear in 1996. Three of the songs here were redone for that album. "Enormous Wings", which is almost an identical version, "Darling One" (this one is a much more uptempo-paced version), and "Happy Place", with alternate lyrics. Subsequently "Catch The Wind" and "Turning Over" were released as bonus tracks on the 4-track CD single "All I Want". This album has more upbeat tunes on it, unlike it's successor in 1996, which could have been used on that later album to mix up the tonality a bit."

There is a cdr in circulation but I haven't been able to find a copy cry

Not Dan - I thought I played that one for you years ago. Give me a call sometime and I'll have you over to hear it. I wouldn't say her version "rocks" but it's okay.
