Does anyone have the full audio or video of the infamous Pier Platters gig? I have only seen the snippets from the documentary and would love to see the rest of it! If you have a copy I would pretty much love you forever if you sent it to me!

On a side note, I was watching some DJ Interviews the other day on youtube where he described The Devil and Daniel Johnston as a "nightmare" and he said "talk about exploitation" and how they "gave it the worst title possible" which was really sad for me to hear because I had hoped that he would see his doc the way a lot of fans do, which is equally sympathetic and heartwarming and gives hope to aspiring artists that you shouldn't let anything stop you from creating your art or being yourself, not even your own mind.  I find it really uplifting and they do paint him as a bit of a crazy person but that's part of the Daniel mythos, and is part of what makes him an interesting person outside of his wonderful art and music which are both very interesting.  It's titled that because of his (whether real or not) struggle with the devil, not to mention the 1990 album is full of Satan references so in a since the title was a bit of a homage to that as well, and it's an intriguing title that doesn't say anything bad about DJ. I get so upset when I hear people say it's all about exploitation, when obviously those people have never really listened to his music or seen his art. So the guy had a troubled life, so what? We all have troubled lives to different degrees, and although he did let it get to him from time to time he made the best damn music I've ever heard and I feel the point of the documentary was to understand that.  It sucks that Daniel himself didn't seem to like the doc, I heard he called it "funny" at first, but more recently he seems to of bought into the idea that he was being "exploited", when really all it did was bring his music/art/story to a much wider audience, and I'm still waiting on that Hollywood Movie about Daniel, now that'll be awesome!!

I think it must be very difficult to have all your life and problems on the screen, visible by everyone, especially in our days. Maybe Daniel feels trapped.

On a side note, I was watching some DJ Interviews the other day on youtube where he described The Devil and Daniel Johnston as a "nightmare" and he said "talk about exploitation" and how they "gave it the worst title possible"...

When I took a prototype of 'The Angel and Daniel Johnston...' DVD to show Daniel and Dick just before the 02 gig a couple of years ago, one of the things Dan said when he saw the cover was "The Angel and Daniel Johnston, now that is a lot better than the Devil and Daniel Johnston!" It was fairly obvious he hated the documentary's title. I think the documentary's title is a pun on 'The Devil and Daniel Webster', a 1941 film based on a story by Eugene Field.

We thought our pun was much better, as the 'The Angel' is a name used for the part of Islington where we shot the gig...

but still, if you count how many times Daniel uses the words "Devil" or "Satan" in his lyrics it's gotta be a whole lot. and the devil is a pretty frequent character in his art too. Heck, there's a bunch of reasons why The Devil and Daniel Johnston is a great and suiting title. The whole pun about the devil and daniel webster is yet ANOTHER reason why it's a good title. He was not being exploited! I thought it accurately told the "myths" of DJ. I don't see what the big deal is.

BUT I would still love to get my hands on that pier platters gig!
