Jad Fair has been interviewed by the movie folks - probably been filmed for use in the movie, and hopefully if there was more footage, he has shared it with them.

I just spent some time listing to Lost Recordings and was able to almost completely remove the HUM from Daniel crying on that cassette - it is powerful statement about Daniel's very real pain, but also that he's willing to share it.

here is a before and after the digital removing of the hum.

I apologize if this seems like "getting excited" about someone else's pain, but I find it very moving.

Hmmm, dejected i'm not really sure what you mean by the "hum."  It sounds the same to me on both versions you have here.  Maybe you could explain what you meant.  But I do agree it is a very moving piece.

That's interesting - they both start out with loud humm, but when the humm becomes consistent, it can be filtered  - and the second one does that - at least to me it is a stark difference - I can't image that it's my equipment that makes it different.

Oh I see what your saying.  It took me a while to understand.  Cheesy

Your right.  I'm so used to low-fi recordings.  The "hum" didn't effect me.  Hahaha.. too many years of listening to low-fi music I guess.  And not just "Dan low-fi", many "low-fi" musicians.  Hehe lot's of quotes.   embarassed   Just getting excited the forums are getting a little traffic again.   Smiley

There is video tape of Daniel singing this careless soul  - in a bookstore singing several of the 1990 songs - and he is very emotional, voice cracking from emotion, etc.

The song was sung kinda spontaneously, from the look of it...

i want to see this vid!
