Funnily enough, Daniel and I discussed something along these lines after the Union Chapel concert.

And... that conversation is captured in one of the bonus features of the 'The Angel and Daniel Johnston - Live at the Union Chapel' DVD, the North American version of which shall be available to order very shortly!

That's funny.. I always thought the whole piano demo tape this comes from sounded very much like Daniel Johnston's early piano stuff that he'd do later on.. One of those things that seemed like only I thought about.

Aha!!! Someone commenting on that vid finally cleared up what the beginning of Paul's "Driving Rain" CD (the first notes of opening song "Lonely Road") is a ringer for: "Despair Came Knocking"! Can it be a coincidence?

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...

this may seem like a silly question... but are any of the beatles "aware" of contacted or made a comment in regards to Daniel before?

Im sure Paul and Ringo must of heard something by now of Daniel... but i was just wondering if there was any evidence

you're right there is crazy similarity, but i think it might have a lot to do with the poor quality of the recording. that makes it sound a lot like early daniel.

Add to that the piano sound and style of playing, plus the "whoop" near the end... very similar
