i swear i heard it for the first time on one of his old recordings, but i can't remember which one. i have some tapes of alternate versions of some of his records (like the "Al Pomplas" version of "songs of pain.") if i ever find it again, i'll tell you. it seems like i first heard it AT LEAST 20 years ago, if memory serves...
by the way, the play is going well. opening weekend was great, though it came at the end of an increasingly intense rehearsal schedule. so everyone was a bit exhausted by sunday. this is the first time we've been away from the theatre for more than one day in a row since mid-january.
zach, have you ever taken a crack at "keep punching joe" or "desperate man blues?" the speeding motorcycle band wants to add a song a week to the post-show concert and since we have a three-piece horn section at our disposal, we thought these songs might be fun to try.
take care and thanks for your help. bill
