I was just browing youtube recently and noticed how much daniel johnston stuff there is now compared to a while ago,
I was just wondering are there any other ways of tracking Daniels popularity, like album sales, and is this data available?
It seems here in Ireland more and more people are coming up to me and recognizing my Hi, HOW ARE YOU t-shirt.

That is so great that Daniel is finally getting some recognition. I wear around my "Hi, how are you?" shirt all the time, but no-one has commented on it yet sad hopefully one day a pretty girl who is into Daniel's music notices my shirt and we can have a great convo about his music hehe

I'm just wondering if syndication of the documentary on TV might be massively increasing his exposure. I had heard of "Songs of Pain" when it was mentioned on another artists messageboard (actually by a member here), but I didn't know anything about it until I saw the documentary on BBC4 a few months ago. There were lots of young girls outside the gig before the doors opened.

Dan sucks ass. this whole thing is a trip that some retard can get that much attention. These people need to hear some real music ,they would be amazed. People, WAKE UP!

You only saw the movie, right? There weren't tons of songs in the movie, and he's a really great guy (his music is some of the best music ever created). I don't think it's such a good idea to be so bitter and jealous of him...but I'm not right about everything!

Only someone with no knowledge of te mental healt field would dare to call Daniel a "Retard". Besides being an antiquated term  it is so totally off the mark. You really need to enlighten yourself Lana. Tere are a lot of brilliant people out there suffering from mental illness ( believe me I know from my own soul) who have so much genius inside. When it is allowed to emerge, which we are lucky enough to se a lot of form Daniel, the world gasps in awe. At least the enlightened people.  Peace

I only heard of this, and never tried it myself, but apparently you can put your keyboard through a dishwasher, on the lowest setting (not pot scrubber) and run it through a cycle. That should get rid of years of gunk or crumbs or whatever. But please don't sue me if you try it and all you get is a ruined keyboard!

Ha ha, I think this will definitely ruin your keyboard Smiley Especially if you plug it in while it is still wet.

Pull the keys off, turn it upside dow nand shake all the gunk out.

Do not try this at home! A vacuum cleaner with a hose and brush works quite nicely. Also a little Armor All sprayed on a rag gives your keyboards that brand new appearance. It harms no plastics or metals and really does a good job of getting stains off of the keys.

Daniel is no retard. Not by a long shot. I believe he would score very high in the Stanford test if given to him. Like I have said, I knew him before all of this took place. He is very bright.

Yeah, that would be interesting to see his album sales.......one thing I learned when I first really got into a band big time(Fig Dish) when I was 15 or 16 was that it was shocking to find out that an album that I liked so much and listened to all the time sold very little....I read on the Fig Dish's myspace page that both of their albums only sold 16,000 copies......The one that I listened to all the time was "That's What Love Songs Often Do".....I'm not saying that roughly 10,000 sold for that album isn't bad (I guessed 10,000 because it's the album their pretty much known by), it's just that are there are so many millions of people that listen to music....you would just think that if a album is great it should sell a million copies.....but it pretty much never operates that way.....if I were to guess, I'd say that albums like Hi How are You and Yip Jump sold  50,000 a piece...it's hard to say....it would be funny if it was only something like 15,000........oddly there isn't THAT many people into Daniel's music.....or if they are their not that vocal about it.....I know that there isn't as many as their should be.....hopefully, that'll change over time.....it's gotta....the music is too good

This is really old news anyway, but few seem to have heard it - I dragged a camcorder into Daniel's house last week and did the "pre-production" on a new mini-video interview. (I'm continuing to have trouble with my editing software so it might not be viewable for awhile, sorry!)

Anyway, Dan proudly announced on-camera that he is a "half-millionaire". This figure is apparently the result of a somewhat recent publishing deal. Comparatively, I've been told that the same investors spent $400,000,000.00 for Nirvana's publishing rights. Dan's deal is chickenfeed relative to Cobain's, but he's essentially got a comfortable life guaranteed as of now.

So don't fret - that's the songwriter's job!
