you may or may not care to admit this openly but i must say..
dan johnston makes me cry.  i mean, really weep.  he goes so deep.
it's happened several times and always takes me by surprise.
i'll be listening to one of his songs and just burst out crying.
it's good thing, a healing thing.  in a word, catharsis!

among many things,  dan johnston is a healer in a hurting world.
thank you god and thank you dan.

Cry? Certainly. Oh yes...

The kind one does while gazing in the mirror in an empty dark night,
or watching a parent die or a lover grow indifferent...

I don't know if it's the magic chords, or the vulnerable voice or the personal/universal lyrics...but every now and then, even after all these years, the healing power of this music resonates.

Daniel is, in my opinion, a true shamanic wounded healer.
(And it's even better that he doesn't know it.)

Monkey in a Zoo, Story of an Artist, Go...man, the list goes on and on!

And depending on what's going on, and who or where you find yourself, this music will either bring empathy, sorrow or laughter. Either way, the tears produced have the same saline content. Daniel's magic is of an emotional dynamic.

One thing is true of every listening experience: it touches the heart.

Well said!

After the Highline show in NYC, I had so much in me that surfaced. His music really brought some pain to the surface and allowed me to deal with it. There was some kind of magic with me the whole time in NYC, and it was really like-altering. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

once upon a time a LOT of music made me cry, or maybe didn't make me cry but HELPED me cry. i went through a really deep depression for 2 years, much deeper than my normal general down-ness, music was always there for me, and fear yourself was a staple in my "depression diet". i finally found anti-depressants that work so now i can't cry for love nor money, its VERY frustrating sometimes...
