Hello.Last night i attended my first Daniel Johnston concert at the LakeShore Theatre in Chicago.  It was AWESOME.

Daniel performed two shows on this date. the first one was sold out and took place at 7PM. the second set took place at 10PM with Sharks and Seals opening and Daniel taking the stage a little after 10:30 (i assume Sharks and Seals played during the first show as well)

SOOO About the gig and my adventures.....

I attended the gig with my girlfriend Mari and my mom.  it was my girlfriends bday on the 8th and the DJ show was a gift.
We stood in line for a while right by the alley.....my mom and girlfriend went off to pick up our tickets from the box office. no more than a minute after they left, Daniel Johnston and about fifteen other people (including Sharks and Seals) came out of the side door of the venue which went out into the alley, the same alley i was standing in.

There he was. Daniel Johnston walking right in my direction. the cool part about it was everyone else waiting in line was on either side of the walls of the alley and i was the only one standing in the middle.  He looked great.  They walked across the street to a chili take out place.  A few minutes later my girlfriend and mom returned and i told them about it.  My girlfriend didnt believe me at first and i ask the people behind me if he came out, they all nodded.

mari and myself are in a band together called The BlowHoles our goal of the night was to give Daniel one of our shirts and cds.

SO

we went across the street to the resturant where he was sitting in a booth with a friend.  Mari gave him the cd and shirt.  He asked if it was an xtra large, he read the tag inside that read "one size fits all" the said "alright."  Mari told him she loved him and Daniel said he loved her too.....

I didnt shake his hand but he looked me in the eyes a few times. and just knowing he has a copy of my bands cd was great enough for me....

Later that night when Daniel hit the stage he put on an AWESOME performance.  he opened with funeral home, and then played three new ones: mask (one of my all time favorites) mean girls give pleasure and ?? (i dont know the name of this one but is sounds great)
He then took a short break and returned on stage with Sharks and Seals playing as his backup.  Other highlights included Rock This Town, True Love Will Find You in the End and Devil Town as an encore.

I was able to capture the audio D.J. style (with my tape recorder) and it sounds AWESOME.

After the show was over Mari and I walked up to the stage and grabbed his two water bottles, one was empty and the other was half full.  a little strange i know but now i have priceless souvenirs of two Daniel Johnston water bottles and the memory of giving him my bands cd.....

10 out of 10

Daniel's used water bottle caps go for about $85.00-$100.00 on eBay. If it's a Mountain Dew or Orange Crush cap, you might get double. I can't imagine what an actual half-full water bottle will fetch.

I know a guy outta Oklahoma who sold one of Daniel's half-eaten Big Mac's and a unfinished carton of City Wok's House Lo-Mein (with a grey hair) for almost $200.00

Seriously though, it sounds as if the shows were great.
I've never seen him perform with a band, but I'm sure it kinda takes the pressure off a bit, cuz he's not the only one up there, so maybe he's calmer.

Green Monkey- Post some pics! We'd love to see them.

sissyhaircutboy- So where can one hear The BlowHoles? (other than Dan's house) Are they available for purchase?

i believe he's pulling your leg Smiley

I'm so jealous...I want to see a performance and I will before I die!
Thanks for the recap and the behind the scenes brush with fame.
That's so cool you both got to see him and talk to him and share your music.

speaking of the songs he played, does anyone know where to get that song "mean girls give pleasure"?

I never heard that song before and I was floored by it.
