It depends. If there's not a swarm trying to get to see him, and you endear yourself to whoever's in charge, it can happen. Smaller places are more welcoming in general. I got to meet with him for awhile in Philadelphia 7 or 8 years back after a gig of about 100-150 people. It took some jedi mind stuff on the part of the "bouncer," (and adding a few personal insights) to make it happen, but it was fun, and Daniel was exceptionally personable and receptive.

He was very suprised to find most of the audience knew the words to songs which up to that point had not been released! "How do you know all these songs? They're not even out yet," was his exact quote during the concert. (Those songs would eventually show up on Rejected Unknown, Fear Yourself and Lost and Found...I think.)

The concert you are going to will be unlike anything you'd expect. He will be funny. It will be great. He will seem like he's nervous or in a hurry. He will drink alot of soda. It will be over way too fast. You will never forget it.

Drop a line after the show, and let us know how it went, okay? Good Luck!

Hey, I was at the show in Chicago and it was amazing! grin
he played funeral home, mask, love not dead, life in vain, rock this town,rocknroll/ega,true love will find you...,and a handful of others which i can't recall.
then the encore was the sing-a-long devil town.
the band he played with (sharks and seals) were pretty good too
BEST CONCERT EVER!!!
p.s. i love daniel

Daniel walked right by might outside the venue in the alley as he and the fifteen or so other people went across the street to the chili take out place.

my girl friend and i went over to the resturant and gave him one of our bands cd and tshirt. my girlfriend said she loved him and he said he loved her too....

DANIEL JOHNSTON HAS MY BANDS CD

he played a kickarse show. i taped it via danny style with my tape recorder....

it sounds amazing.

Keep the stories coming. Tell us more.
I'm so glad everyone seems to enjoy this tour he's doing.
Did he look good? Did he seem comfortable in front of the crowd?
