The family and I are taking a trip though Texas and Tennessee this summer, and I would love some input on places I can visit related to Daniel. So far the only thing I've come up with is The Sound Exchange record store. If you have any suggestions, please post them!

In Waller there's a restaurant caled "Dairy Queen" which is names after Dan's song of that title.

All the chalk "jesus saves" messages have long washed off the sidewalks around the drag by the McDonalds - and the actual McDonalds is gone too, from what I'm told .

Go into the Cactus Cafe on UT campus (after 7pm), the Hole In the Wall just up the street from there, Waterloo Records on 6th & Lamar, Tom's Tabooley (and Antone's Records next door) at 30th and Guadalupe, or Austin Books & Comics at the fork where Guad and Lamar meet. Walk inside any of these and ask if anyone has anything to say about Daniel - you should get a fleet of stories.

And of course if you go to the Austin Chronicle office at 4000 N. I-35, you can always just ask for Louis Black - he's always glad to talk to people (smirk!).

They laughed when I sat down at the piano.
They didn't think that I could play.
But their laughter turned to amazement,
When I got back up and carried it away...

I thought it was the other way around, as in Daniel named the song after a fast-food franchise. Or is this an actual sit-down restaurant?

Ahh...I could go for a steak fingers basket & a frozen treat right now...

I noticed that there wasn't a DQ today when we drove thru (the town, not a fast-food joint), but I could *swear* that I remember one being there just a couple of years back!

(and of course, the song was named after the burger haven, for anyone who actually believed the smart-aleck crack I made previously - however, I'm pretty sure that the musical group "The Beatles" named themselves after Daniel's song of that title...)
