well i believe he said something like "that song was written by the great daniel johnston, here's another one of his.."  or something like that, and yea, the rest of the show was excellent as well..

this is directed at jeffmichaud,

why are you such a big deal about 2 lines!?!?

m ward is a true musical visionary......his guitar playing is flawless, and his overall sound is zen-like (this is coming form me, and im not even a real big fan of m ward), and his lyrics are grand as well.

this man is considered a musical genius by alot of great musicians.

if a musical genius wants to change a song, let him........who cares if you dont like it, because chances are, you are wrong!

and i highly doubt he gives a rats ass about the fact that you are taking post war off you ipod, he probably read it, laughed at it, and showed all of his friends so they could laugh at it too.

dont get me wrong, daniels version was excellent! but this is M. WARD'S VERSION, so let him do it the way he wants.

I like some of M Ward's stuff. But I must say that of all the covers on the Discovered/Covered album M Wards is the most dissapointing. His interpretation of the 'Story Of An Artist' sounds just wrong to me. Too slow, too drawled - he plays it almostv as though he is falling asleep. I'll just take the original any day thanks - which happens to be brilliant!

Jeffmichaud:  While I understand you are particularily fond of the lines he left out, calling M. Ward a moron was rude and unnecessary. It is unlikely that this is some sort of clumsy mistake. Rather it is a deliberate choice - like it or not.  Personally I think the "singing birds and laughing bees" line is endearingly goofy, but hardly the punchline the whole song is building toward.

Then again, "Story of an artist" never was one of my favourite songs. M. Wards version seems to express empathy rather than self-pity which brings out a new side of the song and that alone makes it a worthwhile cover in my book.

I disliked the "Sorry Entertainer" cover by Calvin Johnson. There is so much you could do with the insanely cool guitar riff - and he just replaces it with some useless drums. And I think Vic Chesnutts "Like a monkey in a zoo" is a better match for the "too slow, to drawled" description. But that doesn't make either of these artists morons.
