When I was "underage" I begged and pleaded with the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC to let me in to see The Feelies but they said "no, no, and no." I then wrote a letter to the Feelies asking them to please consider playing some all ages shows the next time they were in town and I recieved a lovely letter from one of them (all these years later, I can't remember any of their names) along with all sorts of goodies and such. Made my day, that did.
Still, it's a good idea to at least try begging and pleading with clubs because sometimes, maybe even most of the time, they really will work with you.

He was smiling through his own personal hell
Dropped his last dime down a wishing well
But he was hoping too close, and then he fell
Now he’s America's friendly ghost...

Thanks for the reply The title was mentioned during the film's commentary, which is where I got it (sorta), but since I had not seen it listed anywhere else I was wondering if I was missing something. The song almost seems like it was improvised, and maybe it was so much for that moment that it was to stay there forever. Or so my imagination began to conjure...

So one thing led to another and before I knew it I was googling the phrase "open source art project" and finding this website: http://www.communimage.ch/engl/What does this have to do with Daniel Johnston? Well, there are thousands of bits composing the above linked work of art and here is what I randomly clicked on within seconds of landing on the site: http://www.communimage.ch/postcards/1164872177_ethora_comcast.net.html(The above links might not be work safe) This one little section was created by several people. You can zoom in and view which artist did what. Look at the frogs...someone extended the eyeball to meet the red dude/s with the opened heads. I really think that this is a nod to Daniel Johnston, don't you? Right before one thing led to another, I was discussing Daniel Johnston's art with my sweetie. Cool synchronicity, eh?

Thanks, Henry Long. Running Water is another song that my son really likes. He and I are wondering if it was recorded in/near DJ's shower! I'm sure that your nieces will see the light again. Just make sure to lock down any special recordings you may have acquired because kids have a way of walking off with the good stuff. My music collection is in shambles because my son went and discovered a lot of it. *Sigh* At least he left the classical and jazz alone... You're right about that magical cord that DJ strikes. It's this rare ability to open a channel for one's spirit to touch the listener that makes Daniel Johnston a masterful artist. And yes, it is terribly hard to explain. I'm just thankful to have been touched by it.

My husband and I discovered Daniel Johnston's existence a few weeks ago while looking for a good movie to rent (we also rented The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill that night and swiftly fell in love with both films). Since then, I've been listening to Mr. Johnston alot via You Tube (I have to wait until after the holidays to buy myself the gift of new CDs, but I will support the artist I promise) and telling my music-digging friends about him. What's surprising to me is that both of my kids are now hooked as well! My teenage son learned how to play "Funeral Home" and "Devil Town" last night on the guitar, and my 7 year old daughter is walking around the house singing about how she is walking the cow (which is brilliant because this kid hardly ever sings). How cool is this?
I read an opinion somewhere that Daniel Johnston does not write songs but casts spells, and I do believe this is true. White magic, of course.
Thank you, Daniel Johnston.

Please pardon my newfanish question, but what is the name of the song that Daniel Johnston performed on the Cutting Edge? I thought it was called "I Live My Broken Dream," but I do not see it listed anywhere as such.
Thanks!
