16  General Discussion / Album Chat / Re: Old Tapes on PRESSED CDs? on: December 26, 2006, 12:35:24 PM
my copy of Retired Boxer/Respect is on a silver cd within the cardboard case, not cdr unless its a silver cdr
I think it would be awesome if they put out some sort of box set of the cassette recordings like the cdr 5 pack but with more notes and stuff

18  General Discussion / News Talk / Re: Continued Story/Hi How Are You CD Reissue mistake on: December 26, 2006, 12:30:08 PM
Ive got the jewel case version of Hi How Are You from the DJ store, it doesnt have the error. That version does not have the lyric sheet/poster (is there a poster/lyrics for Yip/Jump?). is there anywhere to buy that seperately? Also on Yip/Jump does Speeding Motorcycle have the little jump in sound? Im assuming that was from the source...
19  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Tapes out of print? on: December 18, 2006, 11:18:26 AM
i just got a few cds as early christmas and they sound great, even printed directly to the cdr
you can also get them on itunes or emusic and they come with the art so truly you could buy it there and tape it!

22  General Discussion / Fan Forums / how did you first hear/become a fan? on: December 13, 2006, 10:17:57 AM
I am a more recent fan... I have lived in Austin for like 8 years i think now and used to frequent Sound Exchange so i knew of DJ through the mural and always saw the tape but never heard em....
a few years passed and i think Wilcos cover of True Love Will Find You was my first time to hear a cover, a little later through file sharing i got a few songs  like Speeding Motorcycle and True Love, but never went out for the albums until after seeing the doc and really hearing how great most of his songs are. In the process of my discovery I realized that I had heard his song Rocket Ship done by Dead Milkmen from ages ago...

24  General Discussion / Fan Forums / stuff on: December 09, 2006, 12:02:46 PM
other than for the art galleries has there ever been postcards of DJs art made? a collector set would be awesome, like a set of his frequent characters, also have they ever done any sticker designs?

are the official shops for rejectedunknown or danieljohnston.com gonna restart the tapes?
26  General Discussion / Album Chat / Re: Where can you buy Daniel's music? on: December 07, 2006, 07:31:25 AM
i would guess sound exchange in houston might carry it, i know the austin store which was owned by different folks always had the cassettes as well as the iconic mural

27  General Discussion / News Talk / Re: Daniel Johnston meets Laurie on: November 28, 2006, 12:56:38 PM
i think that the way to do that wouldve been to let em meet before hand with no cameras and then the public meeting,,,
28  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: archive cds in stores on: November 28, 2006, 12:54:36 PM
Waterloo has all the official cds in print, i saw all the cds there including stuff that is out in the DJ store and Amazon, they had a counter display with the movie as well as Yip/Jump and Continued Story/HHAYou,,,they used to have the tapes but i didnt see em....End Of An Ear just has shirts
hopefully Santa will visit Waller and pick up the archive 5 pack for Christmas,,,
29  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Similiar Artists To DJ on: November 28, 2006, 12:45:44 PM
I think Tom Waits would be a good example...he has an uncommon voice which hides some great pop sensibilities
vocally Wayne Coyne from Flaming Lips...
i think suggesting Wesley Willis as a similar artist does wrong for Daniel, I think Daniels music thrives despite his illness even though it is affected whereas Willis's art to me seemed to be all about being funny because of his illness (if WW wasnt schizophrenic  almost no one would care about it, if Daniel Johnston didnt have the mystique of his illness he would still be cinsidered a damn fine songwriter)
Im not sure if linking in Jandek would be so accurate either, Jandek has all the uncomfortableness of the creepiest DJ song but with none of the pop sensibilities (and that is his allure)most people could not listen to a jandek album,,,
