1  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Paul McCartney similarities on: December 28, 2009, 06:53:29 AM
Add to that the piano sound and style of playing, plus the "whoop" near the end... very similar
2  General Discussion / Fan Forums / New Daniel interview with Nardwuar The Human Serviette! on: October 29, 2009, 05:49:04 AM
Around 35-40 minutes in:

He plays my band The Plimptons right at the top of the show, too!

According to Digital Spy, it's spelt 'Danyl Johnson'.   Hopefully he'll be dead within the year
4  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Really annoying gaps between reissues of lo-fi cassettes on: August 18, 2009, 04:52:41 AM
Just downloaded 'Merry Christmas' - a tape I've been wanting to hear since I became a fan 8 years ago - via eMusic and guess what!  It's been ripped from a CD with ****ing annoying 2 second gaps between every track, even though Daniel's tapes play continuously!  Great!

To whoever is manufacturing the early tape CD-Rs:

GET YOURSELF SOME CD BURNING SOFTWARE THAT ELIMINATES ADDING 2 SECOND GAPS BETWEEN TRACKS.  IT'S RUINING THE ALBUMS WE'RE PAYING FOR.

As for whoever put out 'The Early Recordings' - a full, glass-cut CD, presumably mastered properly - what's your excuse?  Dualtone?

Great, I've always wanted to read an Everett True autobiography
6  General Discussion / News Talk / Re: The lady that jumped out the window to escape Daniel's psychotic rage on: May 24, 2009, 06:05:18 PM
If I was this bitter and mean-spirited, I'd want it spread across two threads
7  General Discussion / News Talk / Re: The lady that was frightened by Daniel who jumped out the window on: May 24, 2009, 06:03:35 PM
How mean-spirited and unpleasant to write him off as a "coward" and to make those scathing remarks, although I'm sure people round here don't give two ****s about them

Daniel's own father fought in WWII and is understood to have reprimanded him over the 'joke'  (see article linked about).  His unpleasant 'Ratzoid' character seems too surreal and stupid to indicate any serious Nazi sympathies on Daniel's part, but...

Why, Daniel, why?

I hate to sound so predictable, but surely this isn't just another case of his new-found fame taking over his mental state, again?

Also, there seems to be some creep repeatedly recounting the joke on Wikipedia to fulfill his own sense of otherwise non-existent righteousness.  It's a person who clearly had no real insider knowledge about Dnaiel.  The c***t.   Delete it if you care to - I will where I find the time.

And if you're reading this - **** you.

Anyone got any thoughts?  I'm worried that the comments could blight Daniel's reputation.  Daniel has never come across as a hateful person, but where is he coming from with this joke?  I don't believe for a second he can be a racist, but it's a confusing comment and there will be those who are quick to condemn for their own sense of righteousness.

Yes indeed, he played the now-defunct Glasgow venue Stereo in 2003.  It was a very memorable show for me.  I didn't actually get to meet Daniel but me and a friend walked into the venue too early, only to find the man him self leaning against one of the barriers.  I was a bit too stunned to think of what to do and was quickly moved outside by staff.  To be honest, I doubt I would have approached him - he didn't look like he was in the mood for me jabbering out rubbish about how 'The What Of Whom' is my favourite.

Eddie Vedder is a rubbish person.

Could I be sent these too?  I'm gutted I never ordered one from Stress despite planning to do so for years.

My chord organ is at my parents house so I haven't played it in a while, but I wrote a great song called 'Summer Tweed' on it a few years ago, which I think we're going to put out at a single.  I've got 'Hi, How Are You?' written on the keys, which always helps.
14  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: New to Daniel Johnston - Recomendations please! on: May 19, 2006, 01:29:58 PM
Maybe buy Yip and Hi How Are You? for two sides of the coin from the same era.  And then throw in The What Of Whom, which is my personal favorite (never heard anyone else agree, yet!)
15  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Daniels other musical interests?? on: May 19, 2006, 01:26:18 PM
Elvis Costello is known to be a big influence, most notably on 'Man Obsessed', 'Heart Mind & Soul' and of course 'Premartial Sex', whose outro is virtually identical to the organ riff on 'Clowntime Is Over', from 'Get Happy!!'.
