Does anyone have the full audio or video of the infamous Pier Platters gig? I have only seen the snippets from the documentary and would love to see the rest of it! If you have a copy I would pretty much love you forever if you sent it to me!

On a side note, I was watching some DJ Interviews the other day on youtube where he described The Devil and Daniel Johnston as a "nightmare" and he said "talk about exploitation" and how they "gave it the worst title possible" which was really sad for me to hear because I had hoped that he would see his doc the way a lot of fans do, which is equally sympathetic and heartwarming and gives hope to aspiring artists that you shouldn't let anything stop you from creating your art or being yourself, not even your own mind.  I find it really uplifting and they do paint him as a bit of a crazy person but that's part of the Daniel mythos, and is part of what makes him an interesting person outside of his wonderful art and music which are both very interesting.  It's titled that because of his (whether real or not) struggle with the devil, not to mention the 1990 album is full of Satan references so in a since the title was a bit of a homage to that as well, and it's an intriguing title that doesn't say anything bad about DJ. I get so upset when I hear people say it's all about exploitation, when obviously those people have never really listened to his music or seen his art. So the guy had a troubled life, so what? We all have troubled lives to different degrees, and although he did let it get to him from time to time he made the best damn music I've ever heard and I feel the point of the documentary was to understand that.  It sucks that Daniel himself didn't seem to like the doc, I heard he called it "funny" at first, but more recently he seems to of bought into the idea that he was being "exploited", when really all it did was bring his music/art/story to a much wider audience, and I'm still waiting on that Hollywood Movie about Daniel, now that'll be awesome!!

WOW thanks man! I never noticed that part of the site for some reason but IT'S A FREAKING GOLDMINE! I have exhausted all 'official' DJ albums because I am addicted to his music and this is TONS of stuff I've never heard, I am truly thankful to you for telling me about this and for the guys running the site. This is the best thing ever.

I've seen the video on youtube of this song from The Cutting Edge and I love the song but I don't have any recorded version of it, if there even was one! Anyone have one or know anything else about it?

I saw this and I wanted to enter but I farted around too much and couldn't come up with anything. This forum is pretty dead though and I wish it wasn't.

no that's the only download source for now, and I'm assuming it's because it's in a .rar format, which isn't the most popular format but takes up less space then a zip file does. I don't run the website so I'll have to contact my guy to have him upload a zip file that is more compatible ASAP. But thanks for the interest man!
25  NOT Daniel Johnston / Outsider Art / Dables Plays Daniel Johnston - my tribute album to DJ on: December 27, 2010, 08:39:45 PM
Hi! I recently finished an entire tribute album, the first of two, of nothing but Daniel Johnston songs and you can download the whole thing for free right here:

I tried to stay true to the songs, but they are also my own sort-of interpretation of them. Anyways these are all just my bedroom creations, so I hope you guys can dig it.

26  General Discussion / Album Chat / You're on a Desert Island and you can only have one Johnston album... on: December 19, 2010, 02:15:26 PM
I know this has been done but let's do it again,
you're on a desert island and you can only have one Daniel Johnston album with you, which one would it be?

mine is Yip/Jump Music!
27  General Discussion / News Talk / Re: Story Of An Artist (boxed set) on: December 19, 2010, 02:12:25 PM
Sometimes I wonder what those who are so adamant about Daniel's lack of talent and ability would make of this box set.  Can anyone listen to it and really believe that he can't sing or play piano?  That we're only interested because of his illness?  I know I'm preaching to the choir here but these recordings still amaze me after all the thousands of times I've listened to them.

Well, I've played Daniel's music for a lot of my friends and whereas a few of them absolutely fell in love with it like I did, but a lot of people said it's mainly the lo-fi recordings and how over-powering his voice can be at times that turn them off from it.  I recently bought this box set and have been listening to it over and over, and I think someone needs to put out a second box set of the second era of Johnston, Yip Jump, Hi How Are You, Retired Boxer, Respect, Continued Story, and Merry Christmas. I would love to have a re-packaged remastered box set of those!

I'm gonna listen to Hot Rats all day in his honor.
29  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Made by Daniel...? on: November 14, 2010, 05:23:32 PM
I've always heard the what of whom wasn't one that daniel really passed out to people that often, so I really doubt this is real. Maybe a stress records reprint but not an original handmade by daniel.
30  General Discussion / Album Chat / Re: The clacking percussion sound on Yip Jump Music on: October 28, 2010, 07:50:43 AM
I only ask because I think it sounds awesome and I would love to know how he did it, but I don't know if all the sounds are just his clacking away on the organ really hard, or what, there's definitely some different percussive sounds going on throughout the album. I dunno...
