This stuff is awesome. Are you familiar with anyone like Penderecki?

Hey, thanks. I like Penderecki's "threnody for the victims of Hiroshima" a lot. That's all I know of his stuff, though...

Hi Gannon, this one's not mine-- it's by zach26; I just commented on it. Or did you mean to post that in a different thread?

I like this-- the spirit of the original comes through, but you make it your own. It's too bad more people don't comment on the covers people post-- these get plenty of views, but no one says anything.

Parts of that remind me of "Like a Virgin".  shocked  grin

I just put up a new version... it's the same thing (and same link) but with a high pass filter to take out some of the really low frequencies (60hz and below) that were muddying things up. It sounds a lot better (to my ears) now.

This was meant for the shimmydisc covers cd, but didn't make it on there...

Sounds like you've been reading Jung, Henry. smiley

Is a pic of Dan in a filthy sweatshirt really the best way to present him to the world? Yes, he's as unpretentious as they come, but I think the guy deserves a little more dignity than that, even if he doesn't think so. Just my two cents. For many people, this might be the only picture they see.

These aren't Daniel related, but thought you guys might like some of this. I did the music for the Scary Monsters cover on Daniel's  Electric Ghosts record, so if you liked that, you might like these. Each of these is very different from the others, so if one doesn't tickle your afro maybe another one will.

(circuit-bent electronics, goofy lyrics)

(instrumental microtonal piece, original instruments)

(odd meters, acoustic guitar-based song with eastern tint, melancholy mood/lyrics)

(fun, goofy rock song, electric guitar based)

I play all the instruments on these and do the vocals. Many of the instruments are my own inventions that I've built. I record my music at my home studio, the Ubertarium.

These songs are downloadable free for non-commercial listening purposes only. Anything else requires permission.

My site: www.ubertar.com

It's Austin, 1983... some guy just handed you a tape. Are you going to listen, or throw it away?

Are you saying Daniel doesn't get any money from the sales of those two CDs? How could that happen?

I don't know anything about Freak Brain, and while I don't know the details of how $ will be handled for the Electric Ghosts release, I'm sure that most of the profits (if/when there are any) will go to Daniel. I know Don loves Daniel and is looking out for his best interests. Can you imagine what it must be like to be his tour manager? It's frustrating that no promotion was allowed before the release, and as far as I know there have been no reviews... I guess it wasn't allowed to be sent out for review either. I understand the concern that sales of Electric Ghosts could cut into sales of other albums, but I don't think the audience for them is necessarily the same-- Electric Ghosts will appeal more to die-hard Daniel fans, while the "greatest hits" nature of "Welcome to my World" is a good introduction for new fans. The more EG sells, the more money Daniel will make from it, so why deliberately make it harder to sell by adding all kinds of hurdles? (I'm not talking about it being on the website or not).

For the sake of full disclosure, I was paid a flat amount of one hundred dollars for my work on it. I will receive no royalties. I have no financial stake in the success of this project. I'm just happy to be a part of this. But the implication that Daniel won't make money from sales of the cd makes me angry b/c I know Don, and he's one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet, and I'm sure that he's putting Daniel's interests first, every step of the way. To suggest otherwise is slander, IMO.

Heard "Blue Skies Will Haunt You From Now On" on the radio yesterday. WFMU I think. The best of Don's songs on the record, IMO.
