16  General Discussion / Fan Forums / LAURIE A "HOAX"? SCANDAL ROCKS REGIONAL FILM PREMI on: March 19, 2005, 06:21:21 AM
Also, am I the only one that's vaguely creeped out by this whole Laurie stunt? Even if she was the real Laurie (and it seems that she was after all), the whole episode obviously freaked Daniel out. Did they meet beforehand? Because, if it was a complete surprise to him (as it seems to have been), it strikes me as an irresponsible thing to do.

I suppose they've mistaken it for a cover of the Sonics song of the same name, which also begins with the line 'baby, you're driving me crazy'. Daniel's song is definitely derivative of that song, and starts out sounding like a cover, but takes on its own trajectory after that first line.

Thanks a lot for Silly Love! I know I just asked for that, but if no-one else has any requests... how about 'For the Love of Pete'?

Wow, thanks for all the info - sounds like a really interesting and diverse compilation! I look forward to hearing it.

How about 'Silly Love', from Live at SXSW (the second one in the tracklist)?

Any more info on this compilation? I'm thinking mostly dates... it says 1979-89 - which track(s) date back to '79?
22  General Discussion / Fan Forums / what is your favorite Johnston song? on: December 13, 2004, 06:23:53 AM
Oh, and, a vast amount of the etymology of the English words we speak today comes from artists/writers (or one writer in particular - Shakespeare).  So, in order to prevent the language from stagnating, this should really happen more often!

I always thought 'mediocrisy' was a hybrid of 'mediocrity' and 'hypocrisy' - therefore, mediocrisy=substandard insincerity.
24  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Guardian article: Quotes on Daniel on: September 20, 2004, 04:07:55 PM
Thought this was a good companion piece to Discovered Covered - quotes by other musicians about Daniel and his work, printed in last Wednesday's Guardian (UK):

His Work Just Bores Into You

I always thought of the devil as being intelligent...

Was your original post about anything in particular, Patty?

Hot dang! The above post was me  embarassed
27  General Discussion / Fan Forums / What was your first exposure to Daniel's Music? on: September 10, 2004, 07:10:15 PM
Wow, that looks like a great buy - the music from both films is amazing, especially the Julie Delpy and Kath Bloom songs. (And 'Living Life', of course, but that goes without saying!) The best soundtracks are those that can't really be separated from moments within the film, and vice versa, and that's definitely the case here.

Come to think of it, wonder if Daniel will see many $$$$ for this...?
28  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Daniels best and your favorite? on: September 10, 2004, 07:01:51 PM
I think 'Hi, How Are You?' will probably always be the one album people associate most with Daniel, not just because it's a definitive release musically, but because of the various associations and high-profile references to it.

My personal favourite is probably 'The What of Whom', though 'Songs of Pain' comes pretty close...
29  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Photo of the fortnight - Daniel at the BBC on: June 27, 2004, 03:55:35 AM
Wow... somehow I managed to completely miss both of these! Thanks so much, and thanks to Mindwalk for encoding the mp3s! I love the tracks (esp. the solo version of 'Forever Your Love', which I prefer to the album version).

Does anyone know who or what Daniel's actually recording for at the BBC studios in the current photo of the fortnight? I'm sure I heard somewhere around the time he was last in the UK that it was for a Peel session, but I heard no more about it...
