1  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: FYI: Danny and the Nightmares torrent on: September 18, 2006, 05:20:05 AM
Thanks for this! I actually just discovered it myself, and downloaded it. The sound's pretty substandard, but it's still definitely worth having, of course. Smiley Some great songs on there.
2  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Whats the name of this song?? on: September 16, 2006, 05:13:23 AM
It's a new song, entitled 'Mask'.
3  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: "To Go Home" lyrics on: June 30, 2006, 10:38:49 AM
This is what I heard... not sure about the two lines about "putty" and "facts"... ot the first three words - "hope it be", "hope maybe"?† Not sure

Love this song...

To Go Home

C† † † G† † † †F† † † †C
Hope it be my mind wonít slip
Sailing on a sinking ship
Into the sunset and back
Dark night on a long highway
Little lights in the houses say
Somebodyís staying up late

F† † †G† † † C† † † †F
Oh Ė Iíll be true to you
Oh yeah, you know I will
Iíll be true to you forever or until
I go home

If I ever treated you mean
You know that it was only because
I was sorry I couldnít have you for my own
I guess itís sort of funny now
Sort of like a plastic putty
Imagination will twist it with the facts

Oh Ė Iíll be true to you
Oh yeah, you know I will
Iíll be true to you forever or until
I go home

I have a deep respect for you
Usually reserved for the dead
Hanging on every word that you said
So nice to have a friend like you
Even though youíre not around
Youíre closer to me than most
Kids say the darndest things
Although hopes and golden dreams
Leave everything empty in the end

Oh Ė Iíll be true to you
Oh yeah, you know I will
Iíll be true to you forever or until
I go home

Hope it be my mind donít slip
Sailing on a sinking ship
Into the sunset and back
Gee, itís great to be alive
Takes the skin right off my hide
To think Iíll have to give it all up some day

Oh Ė but Iíll be true to you
Oh yeah, you know I will
Iíll be true to you forever or until
I go home

Excellent stuff - I love this song too, one of my very favourits. A couple of alternate readings on my part - not too sure about them, as I don't have the song at hand at the moment:

Hope it be my mind wonít slip

Hope baby my mind don't slip (not sure about this one myself - perhaps 'maybe' makes the most sense)

Sort of like a plastic putty
Imagination will twist it with the facts

Sort of like a plastic bunny
Imagination all twisted with the facts

Although hopes and golden dreams

Hollow hopes and golden dreams

Incidentally, I just discovered that Mr. Rosenthal is/was Hank Rank, former drummer for SF band Crime. Found that very interesting, as I'm aware that Crime were a very unpopular band (personality-wise) when they were around (late 70s). Incredible drummer, though, so one has to give him credit for that.

I always thought it was 'I was looking for love, but all I got was a body'. Which makes more sense considering what it's about...

That would be 'Foxy Girl', from the album 'Fun' (released on Atlantic in 1994).

It's pretty widely available, here's the link to it on Amazon:

This looks pretty fantastic, thanks for the heads-up. Smiley

Great picture - but what the hell is in that cup thing? Do I even want to know?
9  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: Devil and Daniel Johnston review (of sorts) on: August 09, 2005, 12:59:49 PM
Very true - only I've found that usually the attacks come from barely literate 12-year olds, not two fully-grown professionals who have a direct and profound effect on Daniel's business affairs. Which is what makes this just plain sad, not to mention worrying.

Great news about Daniel making an appearance!! (*begins thinking immediately of things to ask him*)

One question - the date for the appearance at EIF is the 25th of August... I assume this is a mistake? (The only two screenings are the 26th and 27th). Will he be attending the 26th screening, the 27th one, or both?
11  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Danny and the Nightmares - 'Freak Brain' on: July 24, 2005, 02:15:42 PM
Just stumbled across this, and since it hasn't been in the news site (unless I slept through it) I thought I'd draw some attention to it, in case I wasn't indeed the last to know:

Danny and the Nightmares' new album, 'Freak Brain', due for release on SFTRI in August. Anyone heard an advance or anything? Sounds pretty exciting... well, any record produced by Jesus should be interesting, at least. Wink

Just got my ticket for the UK premiere of "The Devil and Daniel Johnston"! Cheesy August 26th at the Cameo in Edinburgh - anyone else coming? If you're planning to, better move quick, because the tickets are likely to sell out within the next few days.

The page on the Edinburgh Film Festival site is particularly interesting - as is the entire festival this year, pity I'm so financially challenged! http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/movies/show/the_devil_and_daniel_johnston/
13  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: LA ROUTE DU ROCK Festival- going??? on: July 06, 2005, 04:41:58 AM
I would love to go, but I need to find an inexpensive way to get from Edinburgh to Weymouth (or Poole)...

Notdaniel's recent mention of this song reminded me of something I've always been meaning to ask - what are its origins (dates, etc.)? I remember hearing someone kind of half-singing some of the lyrics during one of the between-song links on one of the early tapes ('Don't Be Scared', perhaps?), and the 1997 SXSW version is the only one I've actually heard - and it differs quite strongly from Daniel's usual fare. Is the track on 'White Magic' the same song, and how does it differ? (Yes, I still don't have it. embarassed)
15  General Discussion / Fan Forums / Re: The Devil and Daniel Johnston in theatres or on DVD? on: May 26, 2005, 01:14:35 PM
Wow. Those clips are astounding - I was beginning to think I'd never see Daniel's appearance on Cutting Edge, and after picturing how it might've been for goodness knows how long, it's so wonderful to be able to finally see it. I'm even more anxious to see this film than ever, if that's possible. Wink

(The McDonald's clip doesn't work for me either).
