That depends.. how did you get into him to begin with. That way if we know what you heard and enjoy we could make better informed suggestions.  :-D

Just jumping the gun ...

'old stuff' -  songs of pain vol. 1 and 2 , don't be scared , yip!jump music (either get the cassettes from Stress, or download them *legally* . Or get both, it doesn't cost much!)

'new stuff' - Fear Yourself, Rejected/Unknown, Fun

Of course, to contribute to the fund for Daniel's house ,  get the Late Great Daniel Johnston too - buy from the official website, that way, the most £$ goes to the folks who most appreciate it!

I'd begin with "The Late Great Daniel Johnston" - it gathers material together from various parts of his career - not just the early, boom-box stuff.
