Title: I Live My Broken Dreams?
Post by: Valiantdeath on March 21, 2005, 06:21:48 PM
Does anyone know what album this song is on? It's the one he played on MTV but I've never heard it anywhere else, does anyone have the words? Let me know!

I'm notta gonna make a fool of myself and say that "Broken Dreams" is NOT available anywhere easily obtainable, but I will say that it is probably on the Rhythm Rats "best of" CD and definitely on their "Vanna White" 45 (by them, not with Dan), and on the Daniel Johnston cassette "Beyond Description" which is NOT out on Stress (because I have what's probably the only copy and the audio quality makes "Retired Boxer" sound like Queen's "A Night At the Opera").

HOWEVER:

The Devil & DJ filmmakers have announced that there WILL be a soundtrack CD to go with the film's wide release later this year, and since the song is so "rare" (and great) and included in its entirety in the film, I'd bet money that it will appear thereon.

Lyrics... let's see if I can do this without digging out the old MTV videotape...

When I was out in San Marcos a year ago today
They prob'ly would've put me in a home
But I stuffed all my belongings into a Hefty bag
And out into the worldness I did roam

(something something)
I see myself and I look really shattered
I live my broken dreams

The (something) summer that I ever knew
I had a flat tire down memoty lane
(something something)
And now I'm just trying to explain

So here am I
And here I stand
With a sweet angel
Holding my Hand

I live my broken dreams...

...ahh, that's as far as I get get without reference, since I don't wanna post anything error-riddled. I'll get back to ya later with more if noone else does..

  - Not Dan

(Speaking of lyrics, I just noticed that my fave song An Idiot's End has some serious errors on the r/u.com lyrics page. Most of the disputable lines I'm not sure of myself, but how someone could hear the word "monkeys" as "forgiving" is a mystery to me!)

AND NOW:

Here's one nobody requested:

Ritchie Ritch (by Not Daniel Johnston, sort of to the tune of Casper tFG by Am Daniel Johnston)

Everyone was nice to Ritchie Ritch
Though he was mean and bad
Cuz he had all the nice things
None of the other people had

They'd say hello how was your day
And he'd ignore 'em and they'd go away
But among themselves they'd say
He's gonna learn his lesson someday

He had lotsa possessions and
He kept them on his shelves
He never did nothin' for nobody poor
He just kept it all himself

One day he dropped his favorite dime
It fell down a well just like Jessica McClure
He leaned over to get it and they pushed him in
And he knew that he was doomed for sure

And now he's dead as a doornail
And now he's dead as a post
And now he's learned his lesson
And he's Casper the Friendly Ghost!

(Let me know if anyone wants to see the lyrics to "Milking the Dog" next...)

that would be:

"the wildest summer that I ever knew"

just got off the phone with DDJ-he sounds GREAT!!  It's nice to hear him sounding so good...reminds me of good old times...he was kinda freaked out and overwhelmed in Austin the night of the premiere, but he sounds great again.   making a Waller run when I get back from West Virginia (mid April); any messages?

I'm really looking forward to hearing the soundtrack CD.  What songs are going to be on it? Can we see a teack listing? Who's putting it out?   :-D

Hey, Not Dan -

I enjoyed reading your Ritchie Rich poem within this thread -

especially the part about not keeping all of one's money to oneself ;-)

$20, please...
