Title: New article about Daniel
Post by: jsweari on October 10, 2007, 01:53:46 PM
Hi, we've got an article up on our website comparing Daniel to Wild Man Fischer that I thought some of you may enjoy. You can read it at: http://crawdaddy.wolfgangsvault.com/Article.aspx?id=3422

From the article:

Some of Daniel Johnstonís best songs feature his voice alone; same as Wild Manís. Johnstonís voice is actually close enough to Fischerís own to suggest that heís heard him before, but Iím inclined to doubt this, which makes the similarity even more striking. In any case, Johnstonís voice, even alone, expresses volumes of raw, deeply personal emotion. ďI was living in a devil town / Didnít know it was a devil town.Ē The simplicity of a lone mantra works as well for Johnston as it does for Fischer. However, Johnston is a gifted piano player and he plays guitar in a singular fashion, like guitarists who never had a lesson. His fingernails vibrate the machine in a peculiar way, and his strums are irregular and all over the map. However, he plays the instrument and has a knack for incredible melodies.
