I'm Jordy from Gammon Records and I have been reading the boards for a while now. I thought it would be nice to post and get to know some of Daniels real fans. This is such a great site with a ton of info. How can you not just love it? So, the Daniel Benefit Project is well well well on it's way. I have been working on it for a year and three months and I'm happy to say almost all of the cover songs are in. Now I'm working on some very cool ideas on how the CD should look and I *think* it will be packed with some other goodies as well. In the next four weeks I will be setting a street date. It looks like late may early June. You have my word this project will blow your mind, because it has already blown mine. Well, if it is a "cover" project, why donīt you contact RON ENGLISH, to "cover" a cover for the album.... Has done wonderful and unique artwork inspired on Daniel Johnstonīs art....and as a friend of daniel, he would probably be proud..... Thereīs some of his Daniel Johnston inspired artwork at his website..... I think it would work perfectly.... Other idea would be to ask other "famous" artists (fans) to complete the "collection", like matt groening, etc..... well, just my 2 cents..... Thanks for all your posts. Right now I have been talking a lot with Daniel about ideas for artwork. It may be one of Daniels drawings or even possibly a collaboration between Daniel and another artist. Maybe a photo with a concept I have been working on. It looks like the project will have 18 songs. Maybe 20. I hope to have all the songs turned in by the end of this month. As soon as all the paper work is done I'll have a press release ready to go. I'll make sure it's posted here first. If you don't know already, Mark Linkouse is the other producer of this project. So, I'll drop this hint here. Sparklehorse will being do a song BUT with a special guest singer who we are working on getting studio time with now. Mark and I have worked on this project for a year and a few months now. Many artist came forward when they heard about this project who wanted to be on it. The hard part to making it happen was dealing with so many bands and their schedules. It's alot harder then I thought it would be. But now I know its worth it. My dream is this CD will take Daniel to the next level. A place he should have been a long time ago. I know I have songs here that can get some sort of radio play. The press will be all over this I'm sure. But, time will tell. You guys have my word, as soon as news is ready to be dropped it will be done here. Peace~ J :wink: |
