Title: Laurie EP
Post by: Dyspeptic Spirit on April 18, 2007, 03:56:47 AM
Like many I came across Danielís music through the documentary and Iím currently having fun listening to his back catalogue. One song that has really stood out for me is Lennon Song from the Laurie EP. Does anyone know more about this EP, like what songs were on it, on what format it was released and what the circumstances of its release were. Just interested. Also, I have just bought The Early Recordings Volume 1, I just wondered if there were any plans to release a Volume 2 and if so what will be on it. Or is this one of those situations where we will only ever see Volume 1.

The Laurie EP is a 4 song 7" vinyl that was released on Seminal Twang in 1992.
Side A: Laurie; The Monster In Me
Side B: Whiz Kid; The Lennon Song

The back of the EP says:
Recorded in December 1989 in Daniel's bedroom in New Cumberland, West Virginia on a Fostex X-26 4 track.

Guest musicians are Brett Hartenbach on guitar and Mark Hartenbach on harmonica and guitar.  Mark H. also wrote Whiz Kid.

All 4 songs are excellent.  The Monster Inside of Me has always been a favorite of mine.  The version of Laurie is much different than the one on Artistic Vice.  They've put both of these up as MP3 of the week on the Rejected Unknown website - maybe they'd do that again...

It shows up on eBay from time to time, though they've been going for $20-30 lately.

That Volume 2 question has come up a few times.  I have no idea what s going on with that.
