Wow, this is THE most useful thread in forum history no doubt. Thanks zack.

Now I'd like to request I Remember Painfully and POW.

Thank you.

PS I apologize for being a noob and requesting something for nothing....I just discovered this place and am blown away by this thread. Plus, you're on a roll here...

OK, I think I was actually able to figure them out myself from memory....Let me know if this sounds right to you:

Pow:

           Dm                 C                F Bb F
It's an odd and awful way to be
           Dm                C                F Bb F
it's a happy laughter of the free
            C                   F
it's a truth and it's a dare
            C                  F
it's a feeling in the air
            Dm             C             F Bb F
it's a mother's love for a child

etc.........

I Remember Painfully:

  C                                                     G
I remember how we looked at the embryo in the jar together
  C                                                     G
And I remember how we stood talking in the store to each other
             C
It was love
                       G
But what is it now
           C F    C F
Its pain

(I feel like it modulates here, but I don't really remember. Keeping the same key, I think it just keeps up the C G F thing)

        C                 G                 F                       C
I remember your face and I remember your grace
     C                     G                        C
I remember, I remember, I just remember

etc..........

Again these are just guesses from memory, I could be in the wrong keys.....

Remember to check the tab section of the rejected unknown site....this is from there:

G
True love will find you in the end
c            G
Youll find out just who was your friend
Em         Am
Dont be sad, I know you will,
C
But dont give up until
C         G
True love finds you in the end.

This is a promise with a catch
Only if youre looking will it find you
cause true love is searching too
But how can it recognise you
Unless you step out into the light?
But dont give up until
True love finds you in the end.

C   X-3-2-0-1-0
D   X-0-0-3-2-3

G7#9 Bb7#9 C7#9 D7#9
(same chords as first verse)

Her eyes look at you
You don't know what to do
But she seems to understand
Everything you're thinking of
Your words are lost in conversation
Passing from your lips
And all the time you're looking at her
Struggling with your wit

(same chorus chords)
She's a foxy girl
And she's sure to rack your brain
She's a girl who might just drive you sane
And the stars shine bright on a dark Texas night
And she's as sweet as candy cane
And your mind unwinds
She's so very kind
And you'd swear you're melting on the floor

(verse chords)
She's so precious
She's so luscious
She could make you happy
She could set your soul free
She's the only one you've ever talked to this way
And all of a sudden you may find
That you have something new to say

She's a foxy girl
Don't you know you love her so
It makes you feel like letting go
And the stars shine bright
On a dark Texas night
Don't you know she loves you so
And your mind unwinds

She's so very kind
And you'll sear you're melting on the floor

She's so precious
She's so luscious

G D
Are you someone that I saw
D C

G D

Urge
from Songs Of Pain

C
Get attached to a rolling stone
G
And youre liable to get crushed.
F
Youre better off to sit at home
C G
And watch the toilet flush.

(same chords for every verse: C G F C G)

I like to sit and look at her.
I like to do that so much.
To stand and act mysterious
And to watch her blush.

I know I'm such a weird guy.
She could never take me serious.
There's always that green monkey
In around or near us.

I think sometimes of holding her,
But the picture gets all blurred.
I see shadows dancing on my wall.
Thoughts scatter like birds.

I wish to God i could touch her hand,
Somehow make her understand,
The man I somehow wanna be,
The man I want her to make me.

But she stands so distant and rolls her eyes.
She leaves me and I don't know why.
Nothing seems to make much sense.
I cant appreciate the sky.

And so I go home lonely,
Like a wolf without a pack
I got nothing to put my love in,
Like groceries without a sack.

Maybe someday when she gets fat,
She'll think about what she's missed.
She'll know shell never get me back.
She'll feel just like the pits.

She'll sit lonely in her apartment,
Thinking about what might have been.
She'll know her man had come and went.
Maybe she'll take me seriously then.

Get attached to a rolling stone
And youre liable to get crushed.
Youre better off to sit at home
And watch the toilet flush.

Fish
from Fear Yourself

This song has layers of droning open G string guitar parts with single note melodies. They sound great if you have a couple of guitarists and a bass player, but if you just want to play it by yourself, these chords work well.

for the G/D chord in the intro X-5-0-0-3-X sounds pretty good

Intro: G C G/D C

The verses are carried mostly by the bass notes (G-C-D-A) but if you want to play chords over it, these work:

G C D Am (4 times)
Try aching every care in the world.
She's only the most beautiful girl.
The more I think it the badder it gets
I was just swimming along when I was caught in her net

G Em Am D (4 times)
She's got me singing with a broken heart
I keep on messing with my mind torn apart
She's already forgotten, look at me left in the dust
I guess my art didn't help very much

(chord prog #1)
Then the super love got me again
Got me dreaming I could almost win
I stopped to take a look around with a grin
So much turmoil in this crazy town

(chord prog #2)
She's got me bloody from hitting the bricks
Is this the way the girlies get their kicks?
And now I see if it makes a difference
Everyone in love, hating her & each other

(keep alternating between the two chord progressions)
Always thinking it's near the end
Then I was hoping she'd be my friend
Will I forever only wish it again?
oh to be alive & free from sin!

Psycho love in the Twilight Zone.
Drippy soap opera on the telephone.
I get so close but I don't belong.
Strain to identify with a radio song.

Then I see her as if in a dream.
It's so real I could almost scream.
She's doing a ritual the same for any man,
just like a movie it's so deadpan!

I hope for true love in the darkness.
I had the chance at false romance.
Maybe next time I'll look for something new.
I'm so ashamed, so unglued.

I've had enough & she'll never know.
I feel like staying but my subconscious says 'Go'.
Shed a tear like blood on the floor
It's only love and nothing more

She's got me singing with a broken heart
I keep on messing with my mind torn apart
She's already forgotten, look at me left in the dust
I guess my art didn't help very much

(Intro chords to end)

Etiquette
from Continued Story

The guitar is tuned a bit low on this song (or the tape speed is off) Try a capo on the first fret. The fret numbers for chords are all counted from the capo.

I believe Bill Anderson is the guitarist on this tune (at least thats what my Homestead CD says) - from a band called Hand of Glory. Anyone know anything about him or his band?

Try these voicings
C X-3-2-0-1-0
Ab7 4-6-5-6-4-4
A7 5-7-5-6-8-5
D7 X-5-7-7-7-8
G7 3-5-3-6-3-3
Gaug X-10-9-8-8-X in the bridge use X-10-9-8-8-8
F 1-3-3-2-1-1
Fm 1-3-3-1-1-1
C7 X-3-2-3-1-0

Things that sound cool:
A quick switch to D6 (X-5-7-7-7-7) after the D7 (pinky moves)
A quick switch to G7#9 (3-5-3-4-6-6) after the G7 (more pinky)
Slide up to the A augmented chord.

Etiquette
C Ab7 C A7 D7 G7 C Gaug (one chord per bar)

Never noticed her
Why I noticed her so much
I made myself ridiculous

C Ab7 C A7 D7 G7 C D7 (one chord per bar)

Never noticed her
But I made the blunder
Of trying to attract her attention instead of giving it

Bridge:
F Fm C C7 F Fm G7 Gaug

When I said hello
I had talked right past her
When she looked at me
I had glanced shyly to one side

C Ab7 C A7 D7 G7 C Gaug (one chord per bar)

I had been so self-conscious,
I acted self-conscious
Notice others and let them notice by directness
Whoo! Play it Bill! Whoo!
Dont be scared; dont be shy.
Youll never know until you try, buddy
Fred is one of the richest people I have ever met
True, he does not have a hoard of money to give away
He cannot pay handsome salaries
He does not entertain lavishly
Or bestow costly gifts
But he overflows with the gold of sincere friendliness
And gets in return a self-satisfaction

country pick this part using regular chord shapes
C C7 F F C C G G
C C7 F F C G C C

An influence, and a power with people
That all the money in the mint could not buy
He does not wait to see if people will like him
Fred assumes they do like him
That is one of his secrets
He does not wait for them to say hello or smile first
He takes a friendly lead himself and everyone follows
That is another one of the secrets

C Ab7 C A7 D7 G7 C Gaug (one chord per bar)

He does not question whether or not
He will like a person
Or wait before deciding to be friendly

C Ab7 C A7 D7 G7 C C7 (one chord per bar)

He takes it for granted
He will like everyone, every person
This is the third secret of friendliness

Bridge:
F Fm C C7 F Fm G7 Gaug

He magnifies others good points
No matter how inconcoicidental
He overlooks a few annoying qualities
Or major bad points

C Ab7 C A7 D7 G7 C Gaug (one chord per bar)

This is the fourth element in contagulous friendliness
Friendliness is very contagious

C Ab7 C A7 D7 G7 C (one chord per bar)

The trouble is that many of us wait
To catch it from someone else instead of
Giving the other fella a chance

Bill was my housemate back in the eighties and he's the person who first introduced me to Daniel.  At the time he was playing in a band called Poison 13.  For the past few years his main band has been The Meat Purveyors (on Bloodshot Records) but he tends to have several other projects going. He plays in a band called Cat Scientist and I most recently saw him a week ago playing guitar with Jon Langford of Mekons and Waco Brothers fame. Bill has also toured with Neko Case. A nice guy and a very versatile guitarist so he stays busy.

Thanks Jeff!
And thanks also for the "Merry Christmas" background info, too...

It's nice when all the pieces begin to fit together.
