Anyone know anything about this?  Also, that website has the tracklisting for the upcoming Electric Ghosts CD featuring Daniel.  I've heard a version of Frito Lay, and it's a splendid song.

I contacted Hire Wire Music via their MySpace site. They confirmed they are putting out the Daniel Johnston CD 'Welcome To My World' and that it will be in stores April 18th. That's all I got out of them...

Here's some info on 'Daniel Johnston's Electric Ghosts' CD which Important Records are putting out March 31st:

"2006 is sure to be a big year for Daniel Johnston. A Sony Pictures documentary of his life is being released internationally on March 31st and it is currently in the final stages of being chosen for an Academy Award nomination. His fanbase has, once again, swolen substantially and gallery showings of his artwork in the US and in Europe are establishing him as a highly collectable physical artist. The Electric Ghosts is a side project that Daniel and his tour manager/Hyperjinx Tricycle bandmate created while on the road touring America, playing shows and searching for salvation. Daniel Johnston is widely recognized as the father of lo-fi and over the years he has been championed by celebrity musicians like Tom Waits, Kurt Cobain, David Bowie and Sonic Youth. A tribute to Daniel was recently released including tracks from Deathcab For Cutie, Mercury Rev, Tom Waits, Beck and Jad Fair Cover art by famed billboard subverter and Hyperjinx Tricycle band member Ron English. The Electric Ghosts was mastered by Shimmy Disc guru and Johnston producer Kramer."

Also, according to CD Universe 'Lost & Found' was released in Japan Feb 21st...

Translated = it's a best of.

Well, we still have Lost & Found to look forward to!  That's supposed to be coming out around the time of the Devil & Daniel Johnston DVD, right?

yeah I once did my own best of and I remember I sent it to a guy called ryan from australia who used to post on this forum in 2003 or around that time. I remember I put alot of time on this and trying to put the songs in the right order to make them stand out as much as possible. It's a double aswell. How can you not make a double cd when you look through Daniel's song catalogue? It's not fair to leave out so many amazing songs as in welcome to my world,.. it must have been hell selecting songs to that album.
I'll post my list of songs tomorrow when I have more time.

Any other greatest hits package ideas???

Here's my greatest hits.. I seem to have misplaced the second disc which is quite a shame, so I'll put in the songs I remember from that cd last

1. Walking The Cow
2. A Little Bit Of Soap
3. Speeding Motorcycle
4. Worried Shoes
5. The Beatles
6. The Sun Shines Down On Me
7. Grievances
8. Tell Me Now
9. Almost Got Hit By A Truck
10. Evening Stars
11. Rocket Ship
12. Like A Monkey In A Zoo
13. Hey Joe
14. Just Like A Widow
15. Tuna Ketchup
16. Casper The Friendly Ghost
17. Museum Of Love

Good Morning You
Joy Without Pleasure
Phantom Of My Own Opera
You Put My Love Out The Door
Polka Dot Rag
Devil Town
The Dream Is Over
Honey I Sure Miss You
Come To Me Tonight
Fish

It's impossible to leave out any of those songs from that first list for me. It's like leaving out Penny Lane from the Strawberry Fields Forever single.
This is music as good as it gets. Perfect. Daniel Johnston is a genius.

I think what really needs to be kept in mind when it comes to Welcome to My World is who this CD is targeted towards. As true Daniel fans, we already own all these songs. The on-line version does offers four very rare bonus songs (this is more for "us" the die hard fans). The four bonus tracks are:

Tears Stupid Tears
When We All Become Famous In the Sky
Closer to the Truth
I Wish I Were Black

Welcome to My World is more or less the “unofficial” sound track to The Devil and Daniel Johnston movie since the movie will not have sound track. Welcome to My World is for the “new” fan that has just seen the movie and is looking for a place to begin exploring the “Stress era” Daniel.

Welcome to My World offers 21 songs for 11.98 and that is a hot price for anybody who wants to check out Daniel for the first time. All the songs come from the best possible source tapes and then the songs were gently re mastered (removing tape hiss, pops, fixing drop outs and slightly trimming intros and outros.) to showcase Daniel’s voice a bit more. For a new fan this is a great CD to buy to become more acquainted with Daniels unique sound and style.

It was incredibly difficult and time consuming to pick 25 songs and then place them in some kind of working order that has continuity and flow. It’s a mind bending task that had me up many a late nights.

Talking about eMusic, the movie and downloadable Daniel music check out Feuerzeig’s “eMusic Dozens”:

http://www.emusic.com/lists/showlist.htmlnickname=JeffFeuerzeig&lid=714303&p=1

Does Jeff’s list do a good job showing a well rounded view of Daniel’s music that eMusic offers? Why would things like Discovered Covered, Rejected Unknown or even Welcome to My World” be left out when something like Dead Dog Eyeball and It’s Spooky are showcased? Is the goal of “The Dozens” not to show how an artist begins and where he’s at now? A true artist matures over time and Daniel has really shown that he’s come a long way as a singer song writer and I personally feel the dozens list does not showcase Daniel well.

yes sure, I understand, to summon up Daniel's career from start to present but Henry asked if any one had any other greatest hits ideas. There is ofcourse a difference.
Personally I find it hard to exclude Fish for example, Daniel clearly still has "it" and it would be ashame to let people think that his time as one of the greatest songwriters of the world is over. He's not as creative as he used to be but he still peaks now and then. I mean Daniel used to make a whole album with songs as good as the Beatles could ever do, in just a month!

Spent yesterday with my wife framing our art for our own exhibit of new work, (finishing pieces, making labels, etc.,) and I cracked open "Welcome To My World" and played it loud so it could be heard in our studio. (I know, get speaker wire and an extra set of speakers...duh...)

Anyway, I was doing my thing at the kitchen table, Emma was doing hers in the studio. Now, I wouldn't call Emma a "fan." She respects Daniel, and respects my intellectual musings and rants on his role in a yet to be named neo-romantic-post-modern-end-of-irony-folk-spiritual philosophy of art. To be honest, I'm not sure if she's ever sat down and LISTENED to his music, beginning to end, other than catching a note or two.

She responded a few times from the studio with a encouraging laugh at his lyrical humor. Said "I hear ya, Daniel" to a couple lines which struck a personal note from "Peek A Boo," and "Some Things Last a Long Time," and even offered "He's a good song writer," upon hearing "The Sun Shines Down On Me."

Before "Devil Town" was over, she came into the kitchen where I was working, sat down at the table with tears in her eyes, and said softly, "I get it now."

We sat together without speaking through the end of "Story of an Artist," wiping the glass on our framed creations, smiling with recognition and bittersweet acceptance. Both our eyes where blurry with emotion.

The CD finished playing and there was only the sound of robins and finches (singing birds and laughing bees) coming in on the breeze through the white curtained kitchen window.

The austere quiet was finally ended by the phone ringing. The world was waiting. We went about our afternoon preparing our art, hanging it at the Bellefonte Cafe, and celebrating our love, our senses slightly altered by the honest, genuine, poetic words and music of Daniel Johnston.

I get it now.

Not too many "greatist hits' introductions to a musician can claim that kind of power.

He is "Our Fellow Cartographer of the Heart," A phrase I came up with to add to my press release describing what it is that Daniel does.

Perhaps, at our best, it describes us all.

Blessed Be.

Excellent story G!
Now she is a fan....guarantee. I heard Daniels music for the first time and I was kinda shocked. I did not see the beauty yet. It was quirky and different. Its not until I dug deeper and was touched emotionally by some his other stuff that I became a fan....a big fan.
I think this album showcases Daniels stuff pretty good. I dig it alot more then I dig the Uncovered Original tracklisting.
Peek-a-Boo was the perfect opening track. If I had been asked (ahem) I would have definetly put on "Grieveances" and maybe threw in a few bits of Ma Johnston giving Dan the business. I understand she was not really fond of being taped. Personally I think Ma Johnston is the shining star of Mabels Grievances which would have been my choice to close the cd. Man to have to pick a definitive DJ collection it would have to be a beauty of a boxset! Peraps four discs and a little book going into each song. The mere thought makes my head hurt!

and perhaps for the ULTIMATE FAN COLLECTORS EDITION a Daniel Johnson and Vile Corrupt action figure.

I would buy it! afro
