The release called "P" by the band "P" (Gibby Haynes, Bill Carter, Sal Jenco, Johnny Depp (!) and Flea, produced by Andrew Weiss) opens with a stunning version of "I Save Cigarette Butts" that rocks. Worth getting for any Butthole Surfer fan. Can usually be had on eBay for a buck. An under-rated classic for sure.
Now I'm waiting for the all star tribute, sorta like the concert/2-CD tribute to Dylan (Bobfest) Columbia released in the early 90's. Imagine Neil Young and Crazy Horse doing "Honey I Sure Miss You" or "Rocket Ship"...yeah!

"I've always admired people in whatever arena, whether it's art, film or music who are on the outside. I prefer Daniel Johnston to Mariah Carey, you know what I mean? I admire Daniel Johnston greatly. He's the kind of person I've always felt drawn to." - Johnny Depp in Vegas Magazine Once around 1993 give or take a year Johnny and Gibby came over to my house to pick up a copy of Songs of Pain so they could learn "I Save Cigarette Butts". When I handed the cassette to Johnny he was concerned that he might be taking my only copy. Jeff

I've always loved "Hey Joe" by De Artsen, a late 80s Dutch band that later evolved into Bettie Serveert.

One more thing while on the subject of covers - I hear that Bar None plans on reissuing Dead Dog's Eyeball next year and it will also include the tracks on the follow-up ep which means a great version of Worried Shoes that not too many people got to hear.
