It would be kinda cool to know what some of the fans think is Daniels "Sgt Peppers" crowning achievement as far as all his releases are.

And to find out what thier personal favorite is.

Sgt Peppers=YIP/Jump
Personal Fave=The What of Whom

I love each and every song on that gem! All Killer and No Filler!

It's Interesting, but he often answers those kinds of questions in interviews with different answers each time...

I think 'Hi, How Are You?' will probably always be the one album people associate most with Daniel, not just because it's a definitive release musically, but because of the various associations and high-profile references to it.

My personal favourite is probably 'The What of Whom', though 'Songs of Pain' comes pretty close...

I'm continually surprised to find how many people rate What of Whom #1, as two people have in the course of this brief discussion. I personally like a lot of the songs very much, with a fave being "Scuttlebutt" but I don't hear many songs that are as solid and perfect an timeless as the bulk of Songs of Pain especially.

Still, just out of curiosity I have to ask a crass question -  how much would you pay to have the actual, original, handmade, "master" tape of The What of Whom? You know, with the original hand-drawn cover by Daniel and all, and the absolute best-sounding recording in the entire world of the songs on it. For those who count it as their favorite, how much would that be worth to you?

But their laughter turned to amazement,

Considering I have no money whatsoever at the moment, nothing Wink Hehe. Personally, rather than hoarding this priceless artifact as mine, all mine, I'd prefer to have it put in the right hands for remastering and reissue, with lots of extras (fancy liner notes, artwork, bonus tracks, etc. etc.) so that more attention could be drawn to it, and it could be seen as the masterpiece it really is.

As for it lacking in solid songs - any album that has a song like 'Excuse Me' on it is a classic on that basis alone, in my opinion. That's not to say that there aren't other amazing songs on it ('Peek-a-boo', 'Heart Mind and Soul', 'To Go Home', 'Surely You Don't Work All Night', 'Why/Without You'... pretty much all of them, actually Wink), or that it doesn't hold up as a cohesive work.

Actually, most people who should know that I have it already do -  that's why the Stress master of What Of Whom is made from it. But I also have emailed the people who issued the 2 CDs of early material, just to assure they know. I think, however, that given the lo-fi nature of the material in question, most engineer types would say there's not an appreciable difference in sound quality between (for instance) my tape and the copy that Mr. Tartarsauce made off it for use as the Stress master.

(BTW - when I quote stuff, why am I the only one that it doesn't work right for? Or do the rest of you se the quotes properly boxed when you read my posts here?)

Actually, I couldn't if I wanted to at this moment - those film people STILL have every bit of my massive private DJ collection, so I can't even LISTEN to What Of Whom!

However, since I'm currently less than financially stable, I do have lots of lesser, but still very covetable, Daniel stuff I oughtta offer up for sale here - actually, I'm surprised this forum doesn't have an active "For Sale Or Trade" section, like a lot of similar set-ups do (or is there one that I never noticed?).

Is anyone interested if I post a "for sale" list of old 45s, posters, buttons, magazines and such that are Daniel Johnston-related, or should I just let you guys know when I put them up on Ebay?

Not D-
Go to where your audience is. Yip! Jump Board is made up of people totally interested in all things Daniel. It's a no-brainer. Write up what y'got, what y'want for it, and I'm pretty sure everything else will fall into place, if letting go of your stuff to raise some cash is what you're after.

On the other hand, maybe Daniel and family should be offered first dibs, or at least made aware, if some of these things you have are original masters and ****.

Anyway, everyone I know is broke, but hey! The economy is "turning the corner" right? rolleyes

Good luck.

Just so you know, "not Daniel" has been very open and sharing with his stuff - as the film crew is hoarding it right now along with a LOT of other stuff" - and he's shared material with RejectedUnknown that I haven't been able to get up yet - some video will appear in the MEMBERS ONLY section - but we are hitting up on space restraints (and we have about 2.4 GB cummulative storage!!!)

Not Daniel - "The What of Whom" has been "digitally remastered from copies that Jeff T provided, although he has since indicated they are not the "best" copies - so I guess you've got an "original" (which of course is at least a first generation copy).

My thought about selling stuff is that you'll get competition and prices on ebay - but that does take a lot of "managing", and it's not always worth it.

So if you have memorabilia to sell, post a thread with your price list and invite buyers.

The only limitation this should have is that you cannot "reproduce" anything to sell - you can sell what you have, but reproducing and selling is a problem.

P.S.  your closing command on a quote has to have a slash "/" in front of the word "quote" .  I'll edit that post for you and add a slash.

Well, forget that.  That doesn't seem to work either.

My next guess is that it's because you don't have any money.  Things only work right if you have money. huh

Well, look at that - I can even quote a quote!   And with just a moments reflection, I retrack that "because you don't have money" comment - because I don't have any money either, and it's working for me.

Okay, have  you done any good deeds recently - or maybe some bad ones! wink
