I don't really think there's too many artists out there now (or ever) like Daniel, but maybe you could try some of the artists who have been known to be fans and/or worked with him like Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, Teenage Fanclub, etc.

check out my music, I'm almost finished with an entire Daniel Johnston tribute album, I think some of my music is sort of similar to johnston because I used to record on cassette tapes and write weird folk music and I am pretty influenced by him. Anyways, you can download a whole ass of it all for free at:

www.myspace.com/thedables
or
www.dables.org

but I don't run the .org site, my friend does and he doesn't update it for **** but it does have several albums of weird ass bedroom rock freak folk slacker pop poop.
DO IT!

Listened to The Generic Song and This Is Nothing, and Live Forever, and Songs About Girls:

Only my reactions:

Yes...a bit like Dan...
But, first two are too monotone throughout and too slo-mo...and I hated Live Forever (I am a woman and 53, though).
Songs About Girls seems more like a musical interlude stretched out...

OVERALL: nice lyrics in Generic and Nothing...but, both of those could use some emphasis on some lyrics, with non monotone music...perhaps a musical interlude of varying paces here or there...

Definite potential, IMHO.

Thanks for sharing ~

haha thank you! I know the music isn't for everyone, but neither is Daniel. There's a whole hell of a lot more music at http://dables.bandcamp.com
